Albania: two years of a pyramid scheme

Albania: two years of a pyramid scheme By Bardhyl LONDO Since the left-wing government came to power, almost two years have passed. And the way it has governed and what it has brought into the lives of Albanians, in a way, its first balance sheet was made at the Rambouillet summit, or more precisely before it. Because if you look at what Albania was two years ago and what it is now, you seem to be looking at two different countries. Today's Albania is poorer, more divided, less protected, more threatened in public order and social peace, in the state of the economy, in the horrific crime that has taken over the country, in the standard of living of Albanians, and in their emigration and departure from the country. The lives of Albanians have become even harder. This government has turned Albania into a pyramid scheme whose outcome no one can know. Previously it was said that "'97 was a consequence of the Democrats' fault." Later, for every failure, a new alibi was found. But after two years in power, the country faces a bitter balance sheet. The government has failed to bring order and security. Crime, robberies, murders, trafficking, kidnappings, corruption have become part of everyday life. The government has not brought reconciliation, but political revenge. It has not brought development, but decline. It has not brought hope, but insecurity. Instead of the rule of law, a clientelist and corrupt system has been strengthened, where the interests of power are placed above the interests of citizens. Albania is moving ahead without a compass, without vision and without guarantees for the future. In this sense, the last two years have shown that the left has treated Albania as a spoil of power and not as a country that needs reforms, stability and a Western orientation. This is the bitter balance of two years: an Albania ruined morally, economically and institutionally. (The article continues inside)[?]
