The two largest Albanian parties consider it essential to establish a broad Kosovo representation, resulting from a process of cooperation and compromise among political and military forces Meeting between the Democratic Party and the Democratic League of Kosovo. Thousands of fighters, members of the LDK, are on the battlefields in all four corners of Kosovo The chairman of the Democratic Party, Prof. Dr. Sali Berisha, accompanied by the PD deputy chairman, Gen. Pol., and the Secretary General, Mr. Ridvan Bode, received an expanded delegation of the Democratic League of Kosovo headed by the LDK deputy chairman, Mr. Naim Millio. The meeting held extensive discussions about the situation created in Kosovo at the beginning of the implementation of the “Horseshoe” operation by Millosheviçi; the violence, terror, massacres, and genocide that the Pol Pot regime of Belgrade is perpetrating against Kosovo’s defenseless civilian population; their forced expulsion from their homes; the execution of thousands of innocent civilians; violence against LDK politicians, members, and activists and those of other political forces; the taking hostage of the LDK chairman and President of the Republic of Kosovo, Mr. Rugova; the [mugët] and strategies that should be pursued so that Albanians are present in the victory. The Democratic Party and the Democratic League of Kosovo condemn in the strongest terms the genocide and mass deportation of Albanians from Kosovo. At the meeting, support was expressed for NATO’s bombing campaign and the necessity of a ground intervention was stated. Both sides expressed strong support for the UÇK and called on all Albanians to support by every means the provision of national armed assistance in Kosovo to the freedom fighters. LDK representatives [takësuan] that today there are thousands of fighters, LDK members, [të fshehëdet] in all four corners of Kosovo, and reiterated their intensified appeal to members and sympathizers, wherever they may be, to fight for liberation from the barbaric aggressor, if they are able to do so. The two parties expressed support for an international protectorate over Kosovo as a transitional phase, pending the determination of a free and independent Kosovo, in accordance with the repeated vote of the Albanians and their sacrifices on Kosovo’s battlefields. The PD and LDK call on all political and military forces in Kosovo to cooperate in accordance with the agreements made among all forces, so that they can use all material and human resources in the service of victory. They have stated unequivocally that NATO will win the battle, that Albanians will be co-authors of this victory, and that they will return permanently to their ethnic lands. The PD and LDK condemn in the strongest terms the hostage-taking Kosovo, Ibrahim Rugova, by the dictator of Belgrade; they demand his immediate release, along with that of his family, and consider all statements made under these circumstances invalid. The PD and LDK consider it essential to create a representation for all of Kosovo, resulting from a process of cooperation and compromise among the political and military forces. The PD denounces the divisive projects of certain segments of the current authorities in the PTSH and of other media outlets. The LDK expresses its gratitude to the PD and to all Albanians for their hospitality and for their assistance to those displaced from Kosovo. The PD and LDK reaffirm that the solution that will bring peace and stability to Kosovo and the region is Kosovo under international protectorate, with the free expression of the people of Kosovo’s will for independence remaining to be achieved.

Today, two days since the murder of the December Leader Each day that passes since the murder of Azem Hajdari, the symbol of democracy and pluralism, proves the involvement of Fatos Nano’s government and his successor in the crime that shocked all Albanians. Government officials and former communists who leave free and undisturbed the criminals who took the life of the December Leader show Albanians that they have been and remain on the side of those who have been exceptional, but did not touch a single Democrat. All Albanians who loved and felt for Azem Hajdari cannot tolerate [?] the government; it must either arrest them and bring them to justice, or publicly declare that it itself organized the murder of Azem Hajdari.

Members of the National Council and MPs of the PDSH are hereby notified that on Monday, 03 May 1999, at 11:00, a meeting of the National Council will be held in Tirana, with the following agenda: 1. The PD’s political positions concerning the national question and developments in Kosovo, and the commitment of its structures to assist arrivals from Kosovo as they seek to escape the genocide and ethnic cleansing undertaken by the Millosheviç regime. 2. The situation in the north of the country and ensuring the protection of state sovereignty and territorial integrity. 3. The PD’s position on the continuation of the political vendetta, violence, and political proceedings undertaken by the governing coalition.
