Has: Give us weapons to defend our homes

Petition from the border villages of Has addressed to the government: “They leave us at the mercy of the Serbs. Our homes have been destroyed and people are being killed. Our children have been turned into war refugees” Has: Give us weapons to defend our homes “They were stealing houses, that is how they were spreading terror over our area. We came to positions with the village of Korge Cogaj split in two. On Monday they hit ours. Our point of the population was shot by the Serbs” [?] L. Derveni and Idgim Murdani [?] Serbian shells that up to Albania have killed dozens of people and taken hundreds more hostage. Among the hostages there are also Albanian sailors who have been kept for days in the Kukës hospital. These grave facts have angered not only the residents of the border villages of Has, but the entire Albanian public, and have forced government representatives to go there to calm the situation. According to the residents of this area, Prime Minister Pandeli Majko and Defense Minister Luan Hajdaraga, since they are often in Kukës, have never found time to visit them and explain what is happening. Only yesterday, after several government representatives were sent, the terrified residents of these villages gathered and drafted a petition addressed to the government and NATO. We will not abandon our houses, while our possibilities to defend ourselves are scarce. According to them, Defense Minister Luan Hajdaraga had previously stated that “these villages have found themselves with their own strength” [?]. This has further angered the residents of the area, who are asking for weapons to defend themselves. Demanding that urgent measures be taken to protect these villages, the residents complain that the government has left them at the mercy of the Serbs. The petition says: “We are compelled to appeal to the conscience of the Albanian government, because the situation in the border villages of the Has district is extremely tragic. This has come from the government’s negligence and lack of care. Constant requests and complaints have been made, but no measures have been taken. Many families today have been left under the open sky, because their houses have been burned and destroyed by Serbian shells. The situation is worsening day by day. For the last six days all the border villages of Has have been under the constant fire of Serbian artillery. Thus the villages of Bardhoc, Kishaj, Zahrisht, Domaj, Vranisht, Gjinaj, Golaj, Nikoliq, Krumë, Dobrunë, Pogaj, Myç-Has, Planej, Tregtan have become targets of Serbian attacks. The bursts of automatic weapons and the cannons with which these villages are shelled have forced hundreds of families to leave. For several days the village of Korenicë has been almost emptied. Life in these villages is becoming increasingly difficult. It is enough to mention the case of the Canhasi family from the village of Pogaj, whose only son was killed a few days ago by the Serbian army. Likewise, a few days ago the citizen Sylë Vejzaj from the village of Vlahen was killed. All these crimes have been committed before the eyes of the Albanian government, which is indifferent and irresponsible.” The petition further states that “we ask the government to take urgent measures to protect the border villages, to evacuate women and children from these areas, to help with food and medicines the families that have been left without shelter, and to equip the residents with weapons to defend their homes. We also ask that the Albanian government and NATO make it possible to stop Serbian attacks on these villages. We call on the entire Albanian public to rise in defense of these villages.” ON PAGE 2

Today, 234 days since the murder of the leader of the bjofterit The government protects Azem Hajdari’s killers

Today, 234 days since the murder of the leader of the bjofterit The government protects Azem Hajdari’s killers “Every day that passes since the murder of Azem Hajdari, there grows the violence, shock, distrust, political terror, economic ruin, poverty, insecurity, humiliation, perversity and signs of submission of an anti-national regime that cynically and utterly unjustly protects the killers of Azem Hajdari and continues to confront them, hollowing out the people and a state.” This same government, with the furious zeal to concentrate and push forward a reckless and dissolute course: by striking the opposition, silencing creeping crime, drawing in entire segments of the middle class and leaving an entire economy underwater. In these sad days we remember and honor Azem Hajdari.
