In search of the elite?!
By Mero Baze
Today we are examining one of the sharpest issues in our society today: the issue of the elite. Strangely, this word is used today more than ever and more to refer to what we lack than to what we have. In Albanian public debate, the elite has become an overused notion, a label that circulates without substance and without responsibility. Many people self-proclaim themselves part of it, but few carry its moral and civic weight.
In a society disoriented by the transition, where values have often been turned upside down and where success is measured more by power than by merit, the search for an elite seems like a difficult adventure. But for precisely this reason, it is necessary. An elite cannot be merely a group of privileges. It must be the group that thinks further ahead, sacrifices more, and bears greater responsibility for the public fate.
Today we have many voices, many screens, many podiums, but little moral authority. We have a lot of career, but little character. We have a lot of rhetoric, but little example. In this vacuum, society often produces anti-elites, people who occupy the place of authority without being worthy of it. And this happens not only in politics, but also in the media, in universities, in administration, and in culture.
The true elite is not necessarily the one that has fame. Often it is silent, marginalized, and uninterested in applause. It stands out not through privileges, but through standards. Through the way it speaks, thinks, and behaves toward the law and the public interest. Such an elite is not built by decree or by propaganda. It is born from fair competition, quality education, freedom of thought, and a culture of responsibility.
If we truly want to have an elite, we must first stop worshipping successful mediocrity. We must understand that not every rich person is valuable, not every famous person is important, and not every person in power is an authority. Otherwise, we will continue to live in a country where the loudest seem the wisest and the strongest seem the most just.
The search for the elite is ultimately a search for ourselves as a society. What do we honor? What do we reward? What do we leave behind? Without these questions, the word elite will remain only an empty decoration in our public vocabulary.

Invitation to Rugova is not sincere
The vice chairman of the PDS, Genc Pollo, comments on Mr. Thaçi's latest appeal
Pollo: "The invitation to Tirana is situational. What do they think about Ibrahim Rugova? And the departure of Kosovo, incited by President Rugova, opposition members, and Kosovo structures, constitutes a pure call by the Socialists"

Today, 252 days since the murder of the right-wing leader
The government protects the killers of Azem Hajdari
Every day that passes since the murder of Azem Hajdari, shocking evidence and details increase, showing the involvement of today's government in hiding the crime and protecting its perpetrators. Instead of justice acting, it is obstructed. Instead of the perpetrators being punished, they are protected. This is why the opposition considers this issue not only a wound to democracy, but also a test of state capture.
