They are failing, the dividers
The propagandistic chatter of our TV commentators is bleak. They have done everything possible to give Anastas Angjeli the appearance of a statesman. It is hard to say whether this ridiculous farce will be enough to spare him from fatigue, but it is clear that it has another aim: to weaken public opposition and to convince Albanian socialists that continuity exists and that they should enjoy it. The purpose of preserving this illusion is clear. The socialists of Albania must be persuaded that there is no chance of defending themselves from this infection and that they must give up their hope. Beyond the television pretense, at the center of this propaganda stands the interim prime minister Pandeli Majko. He is being presented by the propaganda as a calm, determined, and reasonable man. This is untrue. On the contrary, he is a weak figure, incapable of facing challenges, gripped by fear and forced to play the role of a puppet on the crisis stage. Instead of calming the situation, he feeds the fog and confusion. The Kosovo crisis is being used as a big curtain to hide the political and moral failure of the government. Instead of responsibility we have rhetoric; instead of leadership we have poses; instead of unity we have division. Albanian socialists should not be deceived by this scenery. They must understand that the country is sinking deeper into dependence, insecurity, and the loss of national dignity. It is time for public opinion to look behind the curtain and understand that the dividers are failing.
