Crime and the PS “Robin Hoods”

By EDI PALOKA No matter how much the killers are served to us with a “Santa Claus mask” as people of generosity and creators of prosperity, they will not escape the fact that they are killers and ordinary criminals. Today, before the Socialist Party, all the way to Delijorgji in Durrës, behind the “skull” of hundreds upon hundreds of mannequins, there is being presented a figure that is as ridiculous as it is frightening: the figure of the Albanian “Robin Hood”. The killer, the ordinary thief and smuggler, is now supposedly a generous man who distributes to the poor the money he earns with his “sweat”. If that were all, perhaps we could take it with laughter. But that is precisely where the essence of the Albanian drama lies: the drama of turning crime into a model, the killer into a hero, and the thief into a “successful businessman”. Through paid media, through bought police officers, through officials tied to gangs, an attempt is being made today to impose a new morality: a morality in which the one who wins is not the one who works, but the one who steals; where it is not the law that rules, but the Kalashnikov; where it is not the honest citizen who is honored, but the trafficker. This is why Albanians today feel anxiety and insecurity. This is why crime is not punished, but protected. This is why the police are silent, the prosecutor’s office delays, and justice turns a blind eye. When a society begins to admire the criminal, it has entered a road with no return. And when political power uses the criminal as decoration for its own propaganda, then that power has lost all moral legitimacy. No matter how much they sell us the killer as a benefactor, we must not forget that a killer remains a killer. No matter how much they present him as a man who “shares with others”, we must know that he only shares fear, terror, and misery. He does not build life; he destroys life. Albania does not need new “Robin Hoods”. Albania needs a state, law, justice, and honest work. It needs institutions that do not bow to crime and a politics that does not bow and scrape before gangs. Only then will citizens feel safe, and only then will we have hope that we will live in a normal country. ON PAGE 4
