- The mafia clans of those in power are preparing destabilization and an attack on the opposition The dark scenarios appear to have been pulled out of the secret services’ drawers once again. They are the same scenarios that certain clans in power and the anti-Albanian agencies they work for have been using for some time. For several days now, the schemes used repeatedly over the past two years have been resurfacing, especially in August of last year and in the period following Azem’s killing and Nano’s departure as prime minister. It seems these clans either lack imagination or think that repeating the same methods is the only way they can “succeed.” One of last September’s scenarios was first foreshadowed in several newspapers known for their ties not only to the clans in power, but also directly to SHIK. One of those newspapers warned that there would be unrest on September 10. Just two days after the date announced by that newspaper, Azem Hajdari was killed by people now identified as men of the government, with direct ties to former Prime Minister Nano and Parliamentary Speaker Gjinushi, and also known as UDB agents. How events unfolded afterward is familiar to all Albanians. The provocations by those in power went so far that they even fired on Azem’s funeral. Evidence concerning this event now also exists, including testimony by Vaskil Teta, the interior minister at the time, who directly accuses those in power of preparing September 12 and 14. But it seems that what happened was not enough for those who prepared September 12. Ever since those events, the scenarios have continually been repeated in the same way: the press linked to the secret services warns several days in advance of “unrest”; afterward, those in power appear and say they are “threatened”; then SHIK agents are put into action, trying to carry out the scenario. It is no coincidence that these scenarios were repeated during the period when Kosovo was fighting against the Milošević regime. But so far, all attempts at destabilization have failed because of the opposition’s steadfast stance. At that time, under the motto “One nation, one position,” the opposition not only gave up protests against the government, but also committed itself fully to resolving the crisis, exposing all the schemes of the secret service and of the clans in power that control it. In recent days, the dark scenarios appear to have emerged once again from Klosi’s drawers. And once again, the method is the same. The same newspapers are again warning of a “new September 14,” as always blaming the opposition. Yesterday, Klosi confirmed this too, proving that the news published in the newspapers had come straight from his office. Meanwhile, there are several statements and events that may seem unrelated, but should not be viewed that way. The SP declares that the government is finally ready to accept the opposition’s offer to cooperate in the fight against crime, smuggling and corruption, even though the opposition made this offer nearly a year ago. The declaration is released at a press conference like a smokescreen, because no official letter, offer, or even a written note about this has reached the DP. Meanwhile, in Pukë, shots are fired at the mayor elected by the DP, and the police do not lift a finger, while the government does not even mention the incident. Furthermore, on the very day the SP talks about cooperation in the fight against crime, the police attack and raid the home of DP deputy Myslim Murizi. In Tirana, the head of the secret service, known as one of the organizers of September 12 and a man of the Meidani and Gjinushi clans, makes accusations against the opposition. Poçi’s accusations seem even more confusing: he too talks about unrest and the politics that prepare it, but does not say that it will come from the opposition, leaving it to be understood that he might also mean his own party’s former leader. Nevertheless, all of this—including the recent events in Pukë and Tropojë, where the same schemes have been set in motion as in many other events, especially September 12—makes it clear that we are dealing with scenarios prepared by the mafia clans in power in cooperation with the agencies they work for. These clans are preparing not only destabilization, but also an attack on the opposition, thereby cutting off every possibility of implementing agreements among Albanians under the framework of the Sarajevo Pact. For its part, the DP, now prepared for any such scenario and aware that they are devised by those seeking destabilization, has made it clear that it will give no chance for these dark scenarios to be carried out. But that is not all: the Democrats are also ready to respond appropriately to any possible provocation, so no one should dare, in any way, to confuse the Democrats with the scenarios of Klosi and the mafia clans in power.

The Democratic Party, as Albania’s leading pro-Atlanticist force, considers this appointment a thoroughly deserved choice. Robertson has proven himself to be an outstanding reformer of the armed forces and an unwavering supporter of the North Atlantic Alliance. For Albanians, he is a distinguished friend, perhaps because during the air campaign for the liberation of Kosovo he was not only the most determined supporter of the air offensive, but also of NATO’s ground intervention, for which Albanians will be grateful to him. Today, 326 days since the murder of the December Leader Every day that passes since the murder of Azem Hajdari, the symbol of democracy and pluralism, proves the involvement of Fatos Nano’s government and his successor in the crime that shook the entire Albanian world. The government of the former communists, which leaves the criminals who took the life of the December Leader free and undisturbed, shows Albanians that they have been and remain on the side of the killers, who have names and surnames but are untouched by those in power. Democrats and all Albanians who loved and honoured Azem Hajdari can in no way tolerate this fact. The government must either capture the criminals and bring them to justice, or publicly declare that it itself committed the murder of Azem Hajdari.
