Meta: Here’s How I’ll Deepen the Crisis

EDITORIAL By Shemsi PEPOSHI Albania’s fourth Socialist prime minister in two years, Ilir Meta, yesterday in Parliament reread what Fatos Nano had read in July 1997 and Pandel(i) Majko in October 1998. What stands out is the fact that Meta aims, and seems determined, to fulfill the will of the universe of the Socialist Party and the clans of the Albanian and regional economic mafia. Mr. Meta, in general terms, although he stuck to the same text as Fatos Nano and Ilir Meta, revealed some of the government’s efforts to deepen the crisis in the country by setting out what he called the adoption of laws—that is, a legal justification for keeping the country in a state of tension and instability. on page 5

The Government Protects Azem Hajdari’s Killers

Today, 417 days since the murder of the December Leader Every day that passes since the murder of Azem Hajdari, the symbol of democracy and pluralism, proves the involvement of Fatos Nano’s government and his successor in the crime that took the life of the whole Albanian nation. The government of the former communists, who were at liberty and untroubled, and the criminals who took the life of the December Leader show Albanians that they have been and remain on the side of the killers, who have names and identities but are not touched by those in power. Democrats and all Albanians who loved and honored Azem Hajdari cannot possibly tolerate this fact. The government must either capture the criminals and bring them to justice, or publicly declare that it itself committed the murder of Azem Hajdari.
