EDITORIAL The forced path toward elections By Asfiri PATOZI The Albanian Socialists can control Albania at least physically, with force, principles and rules. One cannot behave like that with the opposition of the ranks. Fatos Nano, in order to keep the face of his own PS Congress, which could even rise without him speaking if the socialists feel the same about free and fair votes. Thus, at the very least, he has signaled that the government will not be willing to accept any solution other than through elections. This is the greatest achievement of the last few days in Albanian politics and at the same time good news, even if only temporary, for a country shaken by this crisis. The PS Congress, which could be recorded as the most important political event in at least the last three months, wanted to tell us that today’s socialists are governing at a time not too far removed from their own president, Rexhep Mejdani. The opposition acted as if everyone knew that this was the government’s interest and that voting is not a necessity for them. Albanian governance, beyond all that has been said about it, has received another push toward a solution through elections. on page 3
