The battle of the books
Editorial
BY LORENC VANGJELI
The battle of the books
This week politics in Albania is published for peace and consensus. There is a little more in the week that in Tirana, however, a new battle has begun. Peace in Parliament in the approval of laws with a three-fifths majority and electoral reform, and the battle of books as much as of authors. And although in this country peace is not news, while battle is the normal news, this coexistence in the order of events has aroused confusion instead of hope and a confused hope for tomorrow.
The publications by Helen Kadarese, Edi Rama, Ben Blushi, Blendi Fevziu, Spartak Ngjela, Sokol Balla or even a cycle of poems by Sokol Ollldashi, had guaranteed public attention not only because of their content but because of the authorship they carried. In Tirana, which is big and a metropolis for Albania, but a lost province in the big European sphere, this battle has aftertaste, the power and insistence of fashion: what is in fashion must be embraced by everyone without any distinction and without any doubt. Just like Valentine’s Day: it is the day of lovers and come on, let’s fall in love! Just like Halloween, come on, let’s get scared! Even when love is a nightmare, even when living in fear is the rule and not the exception of a day of the year.
But the battle of the books? Beginning with Rama’s Kurban, the book had the rare chance that, besides readers, it was “criticized,” mocked and strongly attacked, as almost never happens with any book, by one of its characters, Sali Berisha, who is both prime minister and a character in the book, that... continued on page 6

The two-year “gift” that was given to Sashenka Jonuzi a few days ago by the High Council of Justice, with a salary of about 1.2 million old lek per month, has “shaken” the community of jurists in the Constitutional Court and the Supreme Court, but also in the wider circle of jurists. “This means that those who lead the KLD today are throwing the legal intelligence of this law into the garbage because they are making strange interpretations regarding...
