Police cover up 21 January: “4 victims, only one perpetrator”
Yesterday, in the blue-uniforms analysis, police changed the account of the events in the PS demonstration
Finally the protest on the “Dëshmorët e Kombit” Boulevard is included in the report: two months ago the police did not report the victims at all. The Prosecution continues its investigation to identify the perpetrators of the events at the beginning of the year
News
With a simple statistic, Tirana Police has considered 21 January a fourfold crime, committed by one perpetrator, while the prosecution has still not concluded the investigation into the event. Yesterday during the analysis of Tirana’s blue uniforms, 24 incidents with 26 victims were reported. So far, the only person on trial is the guard Agim Llupo, from whose weapon citizen Ziver Veizi was killed

TIRANA
Tirana Police “puts the seal” on the events of 21 January, considering them a fourfold crime with one perpetrator. Yesterday in the analysis of the capital’s police, in the figures given to the media and the public, a total of 24 events in 2011 were reported, with 26 victims. The tragedy of the 21 January demonstration, in which four people were killed, has been reported as a single event; in fact, the police, before the prosecution has completed its investigation, consider that this event has only one perpetrator. In reality, so far and inside prison there is only the guard Agim Llupo, from whose weapon it has been clearly proven that citizen Ziver Veizi was killed. The prosecution’s investigations are not continuing at the expected pace. This is also because, according to sources from the prosecuting authority, in the Prime Minister’s Office, the video footage from the security camera in the government building has been erased. For this reason, the prosecution has summoned to testify... continues on page 14

News media vs blackmail media
Yesterday, the President of the Republic held the official reception with the media. He evoked professional and courageous journalists, and criticized the militant nature of TVSH and some media outlets biased toward the ruling powers of the day. He said that he wants TVSH to be a national screen and journalists to report freely, beyond the corridors of power. This message is neither the first nor the last when it comes to media democracy. The EU, OSCE and Freedom House all cite the same assessments. Because Albania, once a country without freedom of speech, risks becoming a country where freedom of speech has no value, where rulers govern through control of information and where the ideal journalist is not the one shot by bullets in the line of duty, but the one who gets rich by serving in the court of power.

In our customary tradition, news is not touched, it is not harmed, but it never distorts the news. In democracy the media informs and shapes public opinion without allowing itself to be identified with political propaganda. In Albania this stage has not yet been reached. Here it happens that certain media gain power and immunity to appoint MPs and ministers, to blackmail senior officials and politicians, to impose fines on businesses, and also to force preferential laws for companies or interest groups. It does not matter whether you are honest, whether you abuse your office, whether you lie or show political morality; what matters is having the media on your side... continues on page 4
