THEY PROMISE US PARADISE AGAIN

‘Siva’: We will invest $2 billion. Berisha believes it A US firm presents a project with a resort, casino, tramway and two 75-story towers in Pishë-Poro The company, founded in 2010 and registered in Tirana in December 2011, announces giant plans: Why? So far it has built only one hotel in Brazil, while the shareholder has a company with 2 workers and $403,000 in sales The news A small firm in the US presented yesterday in Tirana a two-billion-dollar project in Albania even though it was created in 2010 and registered in Albania 2 months ago, while its turnover is modest TIRANA GENC KONDI A small firm in the US presented yesterday in Tirana a mega construction and tourism project, for which the figure goes up to 2 billion dollars. Behind these astronomical figures are shareholders who in the US have companies with two workers and modest sales balances. The company in question is “SIVA Partners”, which yesterday presented at the “Sheraton” a giant project for a tourist resort, where, in addition to golf courses and yacht marinas – already familiar – it declares that it is ready to build two twin towers of 75 floors each. A country without youth

Editorial BY Afrim Krasniqi A country without youth Albania is one of the countries with the youngest population. An asset of special value for a country that seeks to quickly recover lost time through rapid development with concrete results. The 20-year-olds of 1990 are now parents with children, those born in 1990 are voters and on the verge of graduating from university. Unlike older generations, they have had the luck to be born into a new system, they have enjoyed freedom and unlimited space, but along with that, they have also grown up with all the burdens of transition. They are growing up in an increasingly technological world, in front of TV screens, computers or modern phones, bombarded with diverse information and different offers for life. Anyone who wants to go to school, study at university, move freely — can do so without great effort. So, formally, youth in Albania has everything that the previous generation did not have. Is that enough? Of course not. Albanian youth deserves to be measured not against the denied youth of the communist system, but against their European peers. If we make this comparison, there is little reason to be enthusiastic. continues on page 22
