The heroes of the bunkers
BY ARBEN RROZHANI
Two days ago, Prime Minister Berisha called for the process of de-bunkerization of the country to begin as soon as possible. This process, through the clear definition of the legal basis, will be assigned to local authorities, so that they themselves adapt the practices that seem most feasible to them for carrying out this process, according to the country’s circumstances,” he declared at the government meeting. But what happened to the bunkers? Some 700,000 reinforced-concrete, iron and high-quality concrete structures were built, which today would be converted into as many social apartments. Many military leaders ended up being labeled as coup plotters in the 1970s, hundreds of soldiers were killed or wounded, and thousands of prisoners worked like animals to bunkerize the country from the seashore to the mountain tops.
