Editorial BY ARBEN RROZHANI Giving oil to Albania When last night the Milan-Roma match was being played at “San Siro,” in front of the stands the lights reflected Albanian-style advertisements: “Taçi Oil”. Normally we should be pleased that there is a little Albania in that legendary stadium. But no! “Taçi Oil” saddens us. Not to cast doubt on this business, but the government put it there; its history is one of disappointment for us. Just like the “VEFA Holding” advertisement in 1995 when it paid 240 thousand dollars to appear on the Monza Formula 1 track. As will soon be the case with another “Taç”, which will buy Albpetrol, just as ARMO was bought 4 years ago. In fact, even worse. Secretly, more than a month before the first debates three days ago in Parliament on the privatization of Albpetrol, that is on 1 February, the government of Sali Berisha, with a decision that entered into force immediately and was hidden for more than 7 weeks, wrote in black and white that the value of the state oil company, with assets, wells, oil and everything else, is... 95.4 million euros!!! In simple terms, about four times less than what the company’s own Democratic director values it at, or than the American lobbying company “Patton Bogs”, which has an interest in selling it as expensively as possible, because it will also take a percentage. But the government and the prime minister, who three days ago declared in Parliament that “Private fatherland belongs to all owners,” have a different opinion. With the 71 votes it has as a majority, it can sell you 3,000 wells, 6 oil sources, a gas field, a bituminous sand deposit and the infrastructure for just 95.4 million euros. And who wouldn’t buy it for that? Why not even Vebi Alimuçaj, because after him, in these two and now today, it is the same man... the one who gives oil to Albania.
