BY ANILA BASHA Tourism, the lack of strategy This weekend I too went on holiday on the Albanian coast. Perhaps like many people in the country, those who on Monday would return to the office. I turned my eyes to the state TV while eating lunch. I heard a report about thousands and thousands of tourists who had flooded into Albania. At the hotel where I was staying, they counted them on the fingers of one hand. When I set off for Tirana, I thought I would tell the prime minister all this directly. Me – Good afternoon, Doctor Him – Come in, Anila... Me – Doctor, I’m not disturbing you for nothing. I have a thousand and one things on my mind. Shall I talk to you about Marie, who was killed in a blood feud, or about road accidents, or say that by giving Fabri Balliu so much money to build the Levan – Vlorë road... I would be so tense that I would also tell you a great deal about the economic crisis, where I can tell with the palm of my hand whether someone has put a banknote in it when I go home to Lushnje, despite the fact that you say you have increased salaries and pensions. But what has happened, with the indexing of salaries and pensions to inflation, does not put anything in anyone’s pocket. So I have come, Mr Prime Minister, to speak to you today about tourism. I was in the south for the weekend. And I want to talk about tourism. I am very sure, Mr Prime Minister, that you do not believe what I am about to say.
