Statement BY MEDIA JOURNALISTS For more than two weeks, groups of citizens from Tirana, environmental associations and public activists have been protesting against interventions in the Lake Park, interventions accompanied by the mass cutting of trees. Since the beginning of this protest, every day in the printed press and on television media, several dozen reports and news items have been published and, besides them, a series of problematic articles by independent analysts and commentators. Despite this massive mobilization of civil society, from the responsible body, the Municipality of Tirana, there has been absolute silence, apart from a general statement with a strongly politicized tone. At the same time as this issue, the parallel case is unfolding in which the CEC reacted to the months-long request of civil society to pronounce itself on the referendum to ban waste imports, only after the direct public intervention of the American ambassador. Based on these cases, we express our fear that we are facing a new escalation of irresponsibility and indifference on the part of the public administration. We now find ourselves in an almost absurd and dead-end situation where, in the face of public protests demanding the fulfillment of underdefined legal obligations, the state does not react at all, not even deigning to answer formally. We are all media people with many years of experience, who have built our lives and careers on words, their publication and the response to them.
