Commentary BY MIRELA GEPRIFTI “Sudja” of un/knowledge Even the greatest wonder lasts only three days, says the wise popular saying. The turmoil of Albanian politics always manages to turn the spotlight of light onto itself and consequently shift attention away from other social problems, such as the case of Kristal University, which is pushed off the media platforms and naturally makes room for the next headlines: the new president, political events, marijuana seizures - which have now become daily news - and so on. The attention that must be devoted to the Kristal problem must be constant, since we are talking about yet another layer of the Albanian “lakror” of corruption, exposing it as it has gripped higher education. Although this allegory may not sound sophisticated at first, it is nevertheless true, because the problem is precisely this: with many “layers” and strata, reasons and actors who not only cause it, but also inspire it, reproduce it, and finally justify or legitimize it. At this point it is also important to say that the crisis that has gripped Albanian higher education is to some extent global. This fact is of course not mentioned as an excuse, but rather to give a broader picture which helps us better understand how it came about and its consequences.
