TIRANE JAKIN MARENA In an interview for the newspaper “Shqiptarja.com”, the doctor of Enver Hoxha, the former communist dictator, Sabit Brokaj, expresses shock at the staggering spending by today’s government officials on their villas, which are equipped with swimming pools, saunas and other facilities at a staggering cost. Meanwhile, according to him, Enver Hoxha’s villa in Vlorë, as well as in Pogradec, had only the essential items for a house, without swimming pools and saunas, but at the level of the officials who had gone abroad at that time. It was not new news, because the furnishing with more than 500 million old lek had already been announced a year earlier by the Public Procurement Agency and the interior images had appeared in the print media. Also, more than a week ago, “TopChannel” brought video footage with an amateur camera of how the interior spaces had been furnished. This time the newspaper brought some even spicier details: the indoor and outdoor pools, sauna, billiard room, bar with counter and high chairs, recreational areas, soft armchairs, curtains and their frames, ending with several types of double beds and “king size” latex mattresses, service staff of sofas, blankets and cushions that fill the interior, and behind them a troop of servants who will take care of the officials who will отдых there. More than a week ago, when the video images of the villa came out, the Directorate of Government Services said that the villa was not Berisha’s, but belonged to the country’s dignitaries. That is the old tune. When Berisha bought the Benz-Mercedes for 700 thousand dollars, it was said that it was not for the head of government, but for foreign dignitaries who would come, as if Merkel or Sarkozy had refused to...
