The linear accelerator, the device used to treat tumor diseases, donated by the Vienna Atomic Agency, has caused a dispute between two well-known names at QSUT. Comment BY PREÇ ZOGAJ Albpetrol’s money The announcement that the American consortium “Vetro Energy” won the bid to buy Albpetrol is very good news for the Albanian public. In the pages of a forum for free viewpoints, such as “Shqiptarja.com”, I wrote enthusiastically about this bid, seeing it as a many-sided opportunity for our country and hoping that the consortium had its paperwork in order in accordance with Albanian legislation. Fortunately, that is what happened. The government commission for evaluating bids found that all tender requirements were properly met in the “Vetro Energy” documentation, and declared it the winner. And here we are now: we have sold Albpetrol for 850 million euros, an amount that honors and respects, in difficult times, this asset of the Albanian people; we have sold it to an American consortium, which like most consortia and like everything American is multinational. But its roots are in the USA, so now we also have the “USA” on the map of privatizations and concessions in strategically important sectors; we have sold the company, while the underground deposits have been given under concession for twenty-five years.
