RAILWAY REPORT WORK HAS EXTENDED AS FAR AS KLOS Work on the Milot-Rrëshen-Klos railway has now fully entered the district of Mat. Major structures are nearing completion. The people and youth of Kosovo want neither more nor less than what all the other nations and nationalities of Yugoslavia want. They demand justice and not the state of the country in the implementation of the tasks of the 9th Plenum of the Party’s Central Committee and the highly valued instructions of comrade Ramiz Alia. He emphasized the necessity of intensifying the work being done everywhere to understand, explain and implement the tasks for the further revolutionization of the Party and the life of the country, through the implementation of the mass line. “Speaking of the recent events in Kosovo, of the savage and unprecedented violence that has erupted there, and of the suffering of Albanians, the imprisonment and torture inflicted on them, among other things he said: In Kosovo, all legal and human rights are being violated. The Kosovar people and youth are expressing all these legitimate demands in the most classical ways of democracy, in the streets and squares. But unfortunately, the hotheads of Greater Serbian chauvinism are responding to the just demands of the Kosovar people and their peaceful means of expression with the most primitive forms and methods of violence. Albanian youth, like our entire people, are deeply revolted. They condemn with profound anger the inhumane actions of the Greater Serbian nationalists and demand that they be brought to an immediate end. (ATSH)

Therefore, the sooner an end is put to the nationalist violence being exercised in Kosovo, the sooner the illegal state of emergency is lifted and the political trials are stopped, the more correctly and effectively this will serve reconciliation and peaceful coexistence in Yugoslavia, as well as the strengthening of peace and security in our Balkan region.” In conclusion, comrade Rita Marko expressed confidence that the workers of this district, as always, would further raise the spirit of mobilization for carrying out their tasks and uninterrupted campaigns to fulfil the plan for this year and the entire 8th five-year plan to the full. ONE OF THE DAY’S INTERNATIONAL EVENTS One day after the telephone conversation between the American and Soviet presidents, Xhorxh Bush made a proposal concerning the superpowers’ military presence in Europe. In his annual address to the nation, Bush proposed a reduction of thousands of American and Soviet troops. The United States is ready to reduce its troops in the western part of the continent if the USSR acts in the same way in the East, the White House commented immediately after the proposal. Bush explained the reason for his proposal by pointing to the profound changes that have taken place in Eastern Europe and the USSR, as well as the prospect of their deepening in the future. According to him, the American decision is strong support for the processes of last year in the East. Meanwhile, various observers link this step to the future of the American position in Europe in the event of Soviet troops withdrawing (pranëdai një rast ktheje [?]) from Germany, in another instance, but also to reciprocal reductions and support for the very difficult situation facing Gorbachev’s team and his perestroika. A reduction in the American and Soviet military presence is a step that cannot be left out of consideration. For years, the peoples of Europe have called for it, because it would contribute to security and peace on the continent. This security, which the European peoples continue to press for and aspire to achieve, would be strengthened if it were followed by other steps leading to the complete withdrawal not only of the superpowers’ troops, but also of their various weapons.
