The 8-year and 9-year school is being transformed into lower secondary school and is being detached from it in the general subjects and in the vocational subjects. This new education reform will be at the center of the attention of public opinion and specialists. Within this framework, views are presented on the new school structure, on the content of teaching and its connection with life, production and practice. From the very beginning of our work, by analyzing the situation and progress in all branches, we came to the conclusion that a strong turn was needed in order to raise the pace of work, improve organization, technological discipline, and the implementation of the plan. At the center was placed the increase of the responsibility of cadres and the strengthening of control. Measures were taken to make better use of capacities, to save raw materials and energy, as well as to improve the quality of products. Within this framework, the aim was for every link in the economic mechanism to function with greater effectiveness. It was emphasized that the results achieved are the fruit of the work of the collectives and of the help of the party and state bodies. Nevertheless, shortcomings still remain, especially in the fulfillment of certain indicators and in the rhythmic supply of raw materials. To overcome them, greater commitment is required from specialists and workers, an increase in accountability, and stronger discipline at all levels.
