NOW THAT DEDAJ HAS BECOME ITS OWN COOPERATIVE

In the decision of the 9th Plenum of the CC of the ALP, although the special socialist enterprise of the agricultural cooperative became a supported economy, with the growth of its production and income, through capable leadership and scientific organization of work, it will also become a school for other cooperatives. The prospects of the cooperative In the village of Dedaj in the Shkodra district, it has been customary to say, “go to Dedaj and take a stone, put it on the table and make dinner.” This expressed the difficult economic situation of this hilly-mountain village. The small amount of land this cooperative had was worked and maintained with great dedication. Income over the years has not increased enough. For this reason, in 1979 the unified cooperative of Shkrel decided that this economy should be treated separately. This led to greater attention, some jobs were opened, and interventions were made to improve the land and living conditions. In 1989, the production of wheat, maize, potatoes and fodder was better than in previous years. Now that Dedaj has become a separate cooperative, its residents believe that with the help of the state and their own efforts they will change the situation more quickly. Roads, drinking water, land improvement and the opening of new areas are at the center of attention. In small livestock breeding, the possibility of increasing the number of animals and building up the feed base is being examined. The village youth are engaged in opening terraces, planting trees and improving pastures. Within this framework, measurements have been taken for irrigation and the possibility of building small reservoirs is being studied. Attention is being given to work with cooperative families and to strengthening work discipline. Residents say that now they can better take care of their land, their livestock and the increase of income. (The article continues on page 3) IN THE CAR PARK OF VLORË (Photo: N. Xhufa)

Before ordering an import

A fact, an opinion On January 27 last year, a day after the departure of the Czech specialists for their homeland, the technicians of the unit that keeps the furnace production line running urgently arrived in Elbasan. Explanations, comparisons and checks were needed in order to understand precisely what had to be done. In the end, part of the difficulties was resolved, but not without losing time and creating obstacles in production. This discussion stems from a well-known phenomenon: too often equipment, spare parts or entire lines are ordered without a full technical and economic assessment. This has direct consequences for production, quality and the effective use of foreign currency. In some cases, imports have arrived without sufficient documentation, without training for the people who will use them, and even without clearly defining who is responsible for assembly and maintenance. This article does not question the necessity of imports when they are truly needed. But before ordering an import, it is necessary to examine carefully whether the solution can be found with domestic resources, whether the part can be produced at another plant, whether repair is more advantageous than purchase, and whether the imported item will be used at full capacity. It is necessary for the ordering enterprise, the designer, the institute and the ministry to sit down together and share responsibility. Every order must be technically, economically and organizationally justified. Only in this way can losses be avoided and the right choices be made. The two-month plan must be fully completed ahead of schedule (The article continues on page 3)
