UNITED BY VOLUNTARY WORK IN BERAT Deeply immersed in the environment of all that is happening today in our life, by taking part in conversations, activities, actions and debates, one better understands that great force that springs from conviction and example. In Berat, in these March days, it is felt everywhere. In factories and enterprises, in schools and villages, among the young men and women, among workers and specialists, among veterans and mass organizations, the same tone is heard: there must be work, more work, responsibility and courage to make life better and socialism stronger. The city and its surroundings have been swept by a new surge of voluntary work. Young people take on concrete tasks for cleaning, greening and repairing streets, and for helping in enterprises and cooperatives. At every meeting the spirit of organization, discipline and example stands out. At the center of this movement is the person, his will, the belief that everything can be achieved when one works conscientiously and with love for the homeland. In many work collectives, shortcomings, delays, and the need for everyone to give their best were openly discussed. Numerous ideas were put forward to improve management methods, strengthen control, and raise the role of the basic organization and the youth. The discussions also did not lack concern about bureaucratic behavior, stagnation and manifestations of formalism, but above all there stood out the conviction that these are overcome through honest work and a critical attitude. In neighborhoods and schools, in work centers and production units, concrete examples are multiplying every day. Boys and girls go out on actions after class, experienced workers help the young, specialists and cadres go to the base to solve problems. This new climate has also brought a livelier social debate, greater closeness among people, and a stronger sense of civic responsibility. Berat in these days gives you the feeling of a place that inspires and mobilizes. Not through great words, but through everyday work, through good organization and readiness for sacrifice. Where people feel part of a common purpose, where good example becomes the norm and where criticism serves improvement, the strength to move forward naturally arises.

Mbroça It is now true that schools, but also workplaces and various organizations, have understood more clearly the value of physical and sports activities. In the afternoon hours of the week, on improvised grounds or on properly arranged fields, boys and girls, workers and students turn to sports games and various physical exercises. These afternoon sports hours are becoming a felt need. They not only create opportunities for relaxation and entertainment, but also have a clear effect on health, discipline and the collective spirit. In places where tradition was previously lacking, volleyball, football and basketball matches, as well as other forms of activity, can now be seen. On the other hand, more care is needed for the material base, for the direction of activities and for broader involvement of young men and women. If these efforts are better coordinated with the school, the youth front and social organizations, sports in the afternoon can become a true school of education.

In the district of Mirditë, by March 1, 1,300 ha of new land had been opened and 6,150 ha had been prepared for the spring sowing.
