Facing electric power in a drought period
YESTERDAY AT THE GENERAL ELECTRO-ENERGY DIRECTORATE
The situation expected this year in our country in electricity production will be quite difficult, because of the reduction in water reserves in the country’s hydroelectric plants. This situation, as was made known at yesterday’s meeting held at the General Electro-Energy Directorate, is conditioned by the lack of rainfall in recent months and by the ever-growing demands for consumption.
In the analysis carried out, it was emphasized that measures will be taken to confront this situation by reducing losses in the grid, making efficient use of existing resources, and increasing care in the use of energy. The need for better cooperation between production sectors and large consumers was discussed, in order to overcome the difficulties created.
It was also underlined that the country’s economy must adapt to these conditions, especially in sectors with high energy consumption. Leaders of the ministry and field specialists presented data on water reserves, production performance, and possible alternatives for the coming period.
Reserves in energy production are important

Forests are being stripped and reduced
THE TERRITORY TAKES NOTICE
In recent years it has become clear that the forest area in our country is gradually shrinking. Uncontrolled logging, damage from grazing, fires, and neglect of the forests have caused significant consequences in many areas.
In the forests of the district of Gjirokastër [ ? ] there are no young trees to replace those cut down. In some areas, especially on mountain slopes, water runoff has eroded the soil and damaged old plantations.
Greater attention was called for in protecting the forest fund, in new afforestation, and in preserving natural balances. Specialists stressed that the damage is not only economic, but also environmental, since forests directly affect soil protection and the local climate.
