ANOTHER SIX MONTHS OF WORK AND EFFORT TO ENTER THE NEW CENTURY

The year 1990 has not yet even entered its second half, while the civilized world has already left behind not only the time threshold of the year 2000, but has also cast its eyes and great plans toward the open doors of this new millennium. In Kosovo, the situation is different. First of all, for a long time there has been a severe political situation here, which is also passing with extreme prolongation and many other difficulties. To put it plainly, in every respect we have been confined within a narrow circle; with concern over how far we will get and how much we will be able to breathe freely. In recent times, however, a more pronounced change has been noted, a visible revitalization and a more open awareness. Above all, about our major social and national problems, about the economic difficulties and about the path that must be found in order to move forward. In this context, it is also necessary to view the work and effort that must be made in the second half of this year. This is not just a matter of a calendar date, but of the need to bring today’s tasks to the most successful possible conclusion, so as to enter the new century with as little burden as possible. This requires a general commitment, greater mobilization, and higher work discipline. It requires not wasting time on improvisations, on waiting and on empty excuses. In the economic sphere, results cannot be expected without organized work, without frugality and without responsibility. In social life as well, there can be no peace and progress without respect for order, legality, and fundamental human rights. A society worn down by crises is not rebuilt with words, but with deeds. Therefore, this half-year must be a time of clear decisions, concrete work, and civic maturity. Six months are also enough time to prove that we can do more for ourselves, for our families, for our country. If we understand this responsibility correctly, entry into the new century will not find us unprepared.

The unanimous anger and condemnation of our social opinion

We will move forward resolutely on the road we ourselves have chosen — FROM TELEGRAMS SENT TO COMRADE RAMIZ ALIA We will move forward resolutely on the road we ourselves have chosen. FROM TELEGRAMS SENT TO COMRADE RAMIZ ALIA. Dardan, the sudden appearance of many citizens at foreign embassies and the requests to leave the homeland are phenomena that have aroused deep concern and a strong reaction in our social opinion. In the telegrams sent to the country’s leadership, these acts are condemned as unacceptable and contrary to national dignity. It is expressed that our country’s path is the path of independence, sovereignty, and development based on our own forces. Many working collectives, social organizations, and citizens stress that Albania is going through a difficult period, but this cannot justify acts of panic, departures, or requests that damage the country’s image. These telegrams express support for the measures taken and confidence that the people will know how to preserve calm, order, and unity. It is emphasized that this is the time for greater work, for civic responsibility, and for dedication to shared interests. The opinions received from various towns and villages are unanimous in condemning such behavior and in affirming that the country’s future is not built through abandonment, but through effort, patience, and solidarity.

Everything we have is with our own sweat

DIBËR — These days there is a special liveliness in enterprises and cooperatives, in factories and in the fields. Workers and peasants talk about the plan, about production, about the tasks that must be accomplished and about how to overcome difficulties. In their conversations there is a sense of conviction that every achievement we have is the fruit of our own sweat. No one expects miracles from outside. At the center of attention are increasing production, the frugal use of raw materials, work discipline, and strengthening responsibility in every link. Cadres and specialists meet with the collectives, listen to demands, and try to find practical solutions. In many sectors, measures are being taken to prevent losses, increase yield, and improve organization. This spirit of work and confidence is spreading more and more. People say that the period is difficult, but manageable, if each person does their part. Everything we have, we have through our own sweat, and only through work can we increase it and preserve it.
