FREEDOM, INDEPENDENCE AND SOCIALISM ARE ONE AND INDIVISIBLE

Interview of the day “The Party’s word multiplies our strength, increases our confidence in the path we ourselves have chosen” The secretary of the Basic Organization in Prizren, Shukri Rahimi, on the guidelines of yesterday’s meeting of the Presidency of the Conference of the League of Communists of Kosovo and its positions on the 6 July decision. The President of the Central Committee of the League of Communists of Yugoslavia, Sinan Hasani, with a delegation among the workers and citizens of the municipality of Viti. The words of recent days about the so-called “pluralism,” “democracy,” “party,” “multi-party system” are being widely used by dissatisfied people, organized and unorganized enemies of socialism, but also by uninformed, deceived and confused people. This is done with the aim of creating confusion among workers, youth and citizens, so that confidence in socialist self-managing policy and in the path our peoples have chosen with blood and sacrifice will be shaken. In the tense atmosphere of these days, after the counterrevolutionary demonstrations and after the feverish hostile propaganda, the need is strongly posed for every communist, every worker, every young person and every citizen to know clearly what we are defending and what we are fighting for. We defend freedom, independence and socialism; these are not three separate notions, but one indivisible historical, political and moral whole. If the freedom of our people has been won through a long and bloody struggle, it cannot be understood without the independence of our country and our region; likewise, the independence won and defended with such effort cannot be preserved without socialist relations, without self-management and without the unity of brotherhood and unity. Any attempt to separate one from the other, to set freedom against socialism or independence against self-management, is a dangerous deception. Our comrades and citizens know that the only path guaranteeing development, equality and security is the path we ourselves have chosen. It requires work, discipline and responsibility, but above all faith in our own forces. Precisely for this reason, the word of the Party has special importance: it clarifies, gives direction, mobilizes. When the Party speaks clearly, the masses understand the danger and the task better, and they multiply their energy for the defense of our achievements. In our communes there are many examples of political maturity and correct conduct. Workers, peasants, the intelligentsia and the youth have shown that they know how to distinguish hostile propaganda from the real interests of the people. They have firmly condemned provocations, supported the law-enforcement organs and the socio-political institutions, and demanded that problems be solved through work, not through disorder. In this spirit, today’s talks were also held with local representatives and citizens, who emphasized that the guidelines of the meeting of the Presidency of the Conference of the League of Communists of Kosovo must be turned into daily political and social action. At the center must be the defense of the constitutional order, the strengthening of self-management, the struggle against nationalism and irredentism, as well as the commitment to economic and social stabilization. Only in this way do we preserve what we have won. Only in this way do we preserve freedom and independence. Only in this way do we give full meaning to our self-managing socialism.

Also in London, yes!

Well, from the place where the ideas of parliamentarism and the multi-party system were born, clear messages are coming that pluralism is not a remedy for every society and that the mechanical export of political models does not necessarily bring freedom and democracy. On the contrary, even in Western centers it is recognized that without stability, order and social responsibility, political forms become a cover for narrow interests. This is of particular importance for us, because much foreign propaganda is trying to portray our situation as if the only solution were to import foreign models. But life proves the opposite: peoples must find their own forms of development, in keeping with history, social structure and national interests. In this sense, the experience of other countries can be studied, but not copied. Kosovo, Yugoslavia and its peoples have their own path of socialist self-management, and this path requires constant improvement, but not the destruction of its foundations.

DECISIONS FOR INCREASING WAGES AND THE WELFARE OF WORKERS

Interview with the Prime Minister of Kosovo, J. S. M., with comrade Azem Vllasi about the overall situation in the economy sector of our region and measures for the working class This time we bring our readers a broader conversation with the Prime Minister of the Autonomous Socialist Province of Kosovo, comrade Azem Vllasi, who speaks about current economic problems, price movements, wages, the standard of living and measures to protect workers and families with lower incomes. — Comrade Prime Minister, these days much has been said about rising prices and the difficulties of living standards. What measures are being taken? Azem Vllasi: The economic situation is difficult, but the institutions are acting. Decisions have been taken to adjust wages in some branches where income levels have lagged behind and where the impact of rising prices is more severe. Forms of assistance for families with a lower standard of living are also being considered. — Will there be the same measures across all sectors? Azem Vllasi: Not necessarily to the same extent, because the situation differs from branch to branch and from enterprise to enterprise. The aim is to mitigate the consequences with proper economic and social instruments and to preserve motivation for work. — What place does production have in this strategy? Azem Vllasi: The central place. Without an increase in production there can be neither long-term price stabilization nor a lasting improvement in living standards. Therefore, alongside social measures, we are calling for greater work discipline, rationalization of costs and better management. — How much can the political situation affect the economy? Azem Vllasi: A great deal. Any political uncertainty harms the economy, reduces investment and encourages speculation. For this reason, preserving order and peace is also a direct economic interest. AN IMAGE THAT NO PRESSURE CAN SHATTER

A long article in two installments about the social and moral situation in difficult times. I The writer brings testimony and observations on people’s behavior in moments of trial, on mutual help and on the silent resistance that no pressure can extinguish. He dwells on the figure of the worker, the mother, the student and the intellectual who preserve calm and honor in difficult circumstances. The text emphasizes that the true image of a society is not determined by the noise of the day, but by the ability to preserve solidarity, the common language of work and respect for the other. No matter how harsh the campaign of slander may be, the people preserve their dignity. II In the continuation, the author notes that there are also weaknesses: passivity, fear, hesitation, lack of organization. However, these should not obscure the overall picture. What matters is that the healthy forces of society be more vocal, more present and better organized. Therefore the call is clear: not to surrender before the situation, not to accept slander as truth, and not confusion as a program. The image that remains is that of the working person and of a community that is not easily broken. (Continues on page 3)
