OUR STRENGTH — THE STEEL UNITY OF PARTY-PEOPLE

ALONGSIDE THE PARTY, READY TO TAKE ON NEW BURDENS The First Secretary of the Central Committee of the Party, comrade Ramiz Alia, has been working with multiplied energy and spent the whole of yesterday experiencing it with emotion and special political concern. He followed the events of Thursday closely and held consultations and working meetings. In his statement to the international community and to our people, comrade Ramiz Alia stressed that the recent events have mobilized the entire public opinion and that our people, closely bound to the Party, know how to judge correctly and preserve calm, order, and socialist discipline. In many enterprises and institutions, as well as in neighborhoods and villages, spontaneous meetings were held where determination was expressed to defend the victories of socialism and the independence of the country. Workers, cooperative members, intellectuals, veterans, and young people condemned the hostile acts and expressed readiness to stand alongside the Party in every task. Everywhere the view stood out that our strength lies in the unbreakable Party-people unity, in unwavering faith in the justice of our line and in the ability to face any challenge. Our people know well the path they have followed and cannot be deceived by foreign propaganda. There were many messages from working collectives emphasizing that work will not be interrupted, that production will move forward, and that every hour of the day must be used with greater responsibility. They called for every communist and patriot to become an example of vigilance and work. In these decisive moments, the Party is with the people and the people with the Party. This steel bond has been and remains the main source of our strength.

Let us work with determination and initiative, sparing neither our sweat nor our strength

Communiqué of the meeting of the Political Bureau of the Central Committee of the Party — 5-7 July 1990 Decided: To release every healthy energy in order to successfully meet the tasks of the time. Political, economic, and organizational work must be placed at the center of attention. Working collectives must increase production, save raw materials, supplies, and energy, and strengthen socialist discipline. To deepen the struggle against foreign manifestations and bourgeois-revisionist ideology. Hostile attitudes must be exposed and revolutionary vigilance strengthened. The Party and state organs must be closer to the masses. To increase care for the social condition of the people, for supplies, services, and the improvement of daily life. Work must be carried out with patience and conviction, with argument and personal example. To further develop socialist democracy, criticism and self-criticism, without allowing liberalism, anarchy, or counterrevolutionary activity. Every communist must be at the head of duty. In conclusion, the Political Bureau called on all workers, communists, youth, and the intelligentsia to rise to the height of the times and to make an even greater contribution to the socialist homeland.

FROM DECISION TO IMPLEMENTATION

Initiatives are gaining momentum In various districts and enterprises, the shift from words to action is under way to implement the latest orientations. Workers are increasing the pace of work, analyzing internal reserves, and seeking new ways to improve efficiency. In factories and plants, discussions have been organized on improving technology, reducing losses, and raising quality. Engineers and technicians are presenting concrete proposals, while workers are showing a spirit of responsibility and initiative. In the countryside, cooperative members and mechanizers are focused on seasonal tasks, aiming for higher yields and a more rational use of the material base. Every machine and every hour of work is expected to produce maximum results. From many collectives come news of new socialist commitments, increased targets, and improvements in economic indicators. Good examples are spreading and becoming an incentive for others. Everywhere it is stressed that decisions gain value only when they are implemented precisely, with discipline, and with political and civic responsibility.

A strong district realized the grain production and delivery plan

The working peasantry and the mechanizers of agricultural cooperatives and state farms have achieved good results in harvesting grain and delivering it to the state. In some areas the plan has been fulfilled ahead of schedule, thanks to better work organization and the effective use of equipment. According to preliminary data, a strong district has fully met the grain production and delivery tasks, serving as an example for other districts. At the same time, measures are being taken for the preservation, transport, and storage of the produce. Agricultural workers say the results achieved are the fruit of dedication, discipline, and mutual assistance among brigades and sectors. (continues on page 2)
