THE HOMELAND IS DEFENDED WITH WORK AND KNOWLEDGE

Our country, mentioned as the 11th in the world in terms of its wealth of such immense power, with 40 mineral raw materials, despite the ongoing and many-year efforts of enemies and external and internal reaction to destroy it, today, thanks to the victories of socialism, under the leadership of the Party, stands strong as a granite rock. Through socialism our homeland has secured the true freedom of the people, their economic and social equality, the overall transformation of social and cultural life, the unbreakable unity of the people with the Party, and the issue of recognizing the human personality and respecting it in work and society is being properly resolved. Today it sets itself the task of learning, fighting and working with high conscience, discipline and devotion, so as to make Albania ever stronger, ever more prosperous. One of the sharp observations you hear today in the free and open conversations of our ordinary people, workers, cooperative members, intellectuals, and especially the student and school youth, is this: “Our people, with high theoretical preparation, have good knowledge, but lack experience and production practice.” This question is raised not only as a concern, but also as guidance to look properly at the relationship between knowledge and work. Our homeland is defended with weapons in hand when freedom and independence require it, but it is also defended with work and knowledge, with a high culture of work, with professional skills, with dedication to the general interest. Today, when the Party and the people are confronting difficulties with courage and calm, when democratizing processes are being deepened and better ways are being sought to increase economic effectiveness, it becomes even more necessary for our school to closely link theoretical knowledge with productive practice. A small country like ours, surrounded by many enemies, cannot rely on empty words and diplomas without substance. The defense of the homeland lies in the education of youth, in their upbringing with high moral standards, in the preparation of cadres who know how to think, organize and work. In the past the Party has always raised this problem and has demanded that knowledge not be separated from life. Wherever work has been done in this spirit, results have been achieved. Wherever the link between school and production has been undervalued, weaknesses, formalism, complacent waiting, and a mismatch between the country’s needs and the preparation of young people have been observed. In these conditions, it is necessary to further strengthen education with love for work, to strike at manifestations of conceit, to fight the mistaken concept that physical labor lowers human dignity. On the contrary, work honors people and makes them more useful to society. Knowledge without work remains dry; work without knowledge remains blind. Their union is the sure path to the progress of our socialist homeland.

IN THE FACE OF TALK, LET US USE EVERY RESERVE IN IRRIGATION

These have been hot and difficult days for agriculture. Every possibility must be put into action to ensure the irrigation of agricultural crops and save production. In many areas, with well-organized work and the mobilization of all forces, reserves are being brought into use, canals are being cleaned, pump stations are being repaired, and water sources are being exploited to the maximum. Irrigation day and night has become a necessity. Every delay, every negligence, every pointless waiting causes damage. In particular, cooperatives and agricultural enterprises must organize work in shifts, monitor leaks, avoid losses and give priority to the most endangered plots. Only in this way can the situation created by high temperatures and lack of rainfall be faced. Alongside field work, stronger guidance from local organs is also needed, more responsibility from specialists, and more initiative from cadres. Our countryside has already proven on other occasions that it knows how to face difficulties of this kind. Now determination, constant control and discipline in work are required. If every reserve is used wisely, production can be protected.

HAPPY HOLIDAYS TO WORKERS

Pogradec has opened its doors to holidaymakers. In these summer days, there is great bustle by the lake and in the holiday centers. Holidaymakers from different districts of the country come to spend days of rest, to enjoy the good climate, the clean air and the beauty of the city. Service enterprises and local organs are trying to create the best possible conditions for accommodation, food and entertainment. In hotels, holiday homes and camps, measures have been taken to improve services. Alongside welcoming holidaymakers, the city also maintains its own pace of work and daily life. Pogradec receives and sees off guests with its well-known hospitality. The happy holidays of workers are closely linked to the continuous improvement of conditions and to service culture.
