Facing a six-month period with extraordinary tasks

Our nation is increasingly calling and valuing as historical the 12th plenary session of the Central Committee of the PPSH, because it marks and sets out very clearly the perspective of reforms, of the development and modernization of the country toward emancipation and democracy. It is an important decision, a clear picture of future orientations, an encouragement for accelerating the processes of democratization and further revolutionization in all fields of life. The Party leads the people through this difficult and turbulent period with composure and courage, with confidence in its own forces and in the correctness of the path it has chosen. It has anticipated developments, realistically analyzed the causes of the difficulties, clearly determined the tasks for overcoming them and for strengthening the socialist order, the economy and democratic life. People’s justified concern about supplies, housing, wages, the progress of reforms, and the preservation of order and peace calls for more organized, more concrete, more responsible work from all leading bodies. In this sense, the second half of this year is a period of extraordinary burden, in which every delay is paid for dearly and every hesitation can bring undesirable consequences. The tasks are great: increasing discipline at work, enforcing the law, defending the general interest, strengthening the economy, expanding democratic rights, supporting creative initiative, raising the role of the organs of power and social organizations, as well as improving the political and moral climate in the country. Our people have known how to face trials. They will face these too, if everyone does their part honestly and responsibly, if unity is strengthened, if the party and the state work closer to the people and more openly with them. Only in this way will the second half of the year become a stage of the necessary turning point for the stabilization and progress of the country. (Continued on page 3)

For the expansion and strengthening of the cooperative household

— DECISION OF THE POLITICAL BUREAU OF THE CENTRAL COMMITTEE OF THE PPSH — The Political Bureau, examining the state of livestock breeding and the supply of the market with livestock products and their by-products, pointed out that in recent years livestock production has declined. This situation has also been affected by the decisions to limit cooperative household plots and the animals kept in them. In the present conditions, it was deemed necessary to expand the opportunities for developing livestock breeding in cooperatives and family economies, while preserving the principles of the socialist economy and the general interest. 1. To recommend to agricultural cooperatives that, after discussion in the cooperative council, they allow an increase in the number of livestock in cooperative household plots, in accordance with the concrete conditions and the available feed base. 2. In the relevant decisions, to take into account the needs of cooperative families to secure more meat, milk and by-products, as well as their obligations to the state. 3. To create better conditions for securing forage, veterinary services and the collection of surplus products. 4. The local government and agriculture bodies are to assist in implementing this decision and to ensure that it serves the growth of production and the improvement of market supply. Attention?
