COPING WITH DROUGHT — A MATTER FOR EVERYONE

Such weighty views were expressed on the second day of the nationwide event devoted to the mechanization of agriculture, under the theme “Coping with drought with makeshift means,” which is being organized in the village of Sllatinë e Madhe in Fushë-Kosovë. ... [?] devoted to experience on the existing conditions and possibilities for increasing green fodder production and securing the feed base for winter. Specialists, workers, and leaders of labor organizations from all the communes of Kosovo are taking part in this event. Speaking about the need for this professional and social gathering, organized at a time when comprehensive efforts are being made to secure the necessary feed for livestock and eliminate the consequences of the drought, the organizer of the event, Riza Gjinovci, chairman of the Executive Council of the Assembly of the Commune of Fushë-Kosovë, stressed among other things that we are going through a very difficult and dry period. The intense heat of this year has cut many agricultural crops in half and in some places has even destroyed them completely. Therefore, according to him, it is of particular importance that, at any cost and with our united forces, the shortage of livestock feed be compensated for. In the general report by Prof. Dr. Ali Bunjaku, vice-rector of the University of Kosovo, on the theme “Coping with drought with makeshift means,” it was said that the shortage of summer crops has not come only as a result of extreme drought, but also because of certain weaknesses present in agricultural production. It was said that through fuller use of water, the expansion of areas under vegetables and fodder crops, the mowing of spontaneous vegetation, and the rational use of land, the consequences of this hot summer can be significantly mitigated. Further on in this event, other professional papers were also presented on silage preparation, securing fodder, and practical ways of economizing the feed base. Participants also visited the demonstration plots and saw at close hand a number of solutions applicable under the conditions of this difficult year.
The severe energy situation is overcome through savings and sacrifices

The unsuitable weather, which has accompanied us up to the present day too, has made the worsening energy situation in the country even more complicated. Once again, thanks to the good results in coal and electricity production, the country, together with austerity measures, is managing to offset the consequences of the situation that has arisen. Regarding the country’s energy situation and the efforts to overcome it, our newspaper was given an interview by the Minister of Industry, Minators and Energy, Ljodoviç Mjot. — They say no more, especially since the difficulties in the supply of gasoline and diesel are large, above all because of the interruption of import deliveries. According to our assessments, if there is no rapid stabilization of supplies, then strict savings and a reorientation of fuel use will be necessary. The minister emphasized that, nevertheless, priority quantities are being secured for transport, agriculture, health care, and vital sectors. He assessed that domestic coal and electricity production has achieved good results, but that this is not enough to completely overcome the crisis. According to him, the situation requires discipline, thrift, and sacrifices from everyone. The need was also discussed for labor organizations and citizens to rationalize consumption, avoid unnecessary expenditures, and adapt work processes to the actual energy situation. In answering questions about medium-term measures, the minister mentioned increasing domestic production, improving the maintenance of capacities, and seeking alternatives for fuel supply. The interview stressed that only through general saving and the mobilization of all potentials can the country cope with this serious situation.
Happy children’s holidays
Our center has secured ten years of vacation for school pupils. Again this year a large number of children are spending pleasant days on the coast and in holiday centers. Educational, cultural, and sports activities have been organized for them. Special attention is devoted to their food, hygiene, and recreation. Through control and daily accountability demands

The managers demand greater responsibility from every unit for supply, energy saving, and the most rational possible use of capacities. Through frequent checks and daily analyses, the aim is to identify shortcomings quickly and take immediate measures. In this way, according to the article, the effects of the hot weather and supply difficulties are being sought to be mitigated through better organization of work and continuous accountability.
