With initiative and coordination of work

Yesterday at the Palace of Congresses, the First Secretary of the Central Committee of the Albanian Labor Party, Comrade Ramiz Alia, as part of the periodic meetings he holds with intellectuals, met with a group of painters, sculptors, filmmakers, actors, directors, singers, and composers. The meeting was attended by members of the Political Bureau and secretaries of the Central Committee of the Albanian Labor Party. At the beginning of the conversation, Comrade Ramiz Alia warmly congratulated the creators on the occasion of the November holidays and on their successes in work and creativity. Comrade Ramiz Alia spoke about the results and the new problems that have emerged from the democratization processes and from the current developments in the country. He stressed that our socialism is and will remain inseparable from freedom, democracy, and humanism. He underlined that the path has been opened more than ever to creative criticism and that the country needs free thought, debate, and civic responsibility. During the conversation, various creators expressed views on the role of art and literature, on the need for a more open climate in culture, on improving the conditions for creative work, on the circulation of the best values, and on strengthening aesthetic and civic responsibility. There was also discussion about theater, film, music, painting, sculpture, and the need for art to be as close as possible to the public and to everyday life. Comrade Ramiz Alia valued the contribution of the creative intelligentsia and stressed that true democracy is strengthened when social responsibility goes hand in hand with freedom of thought. The meeting took place in an open and friendly atmosphere.
