From the speech of comrade Vangjel Çërrava

Comrades, Today marks the 70th anniversary of the liberation of the Vlora region from the Italian occupiers. The Vlora War marks one of the greatest victories of the Albanian people in its struggle for freedom, independence and national sovereignty. It is one of the brightest pages of our national history. The heroism of the people of Vlora and of the entire Albanian people in 1920 dealt a heavy blow to the expansionist plans of Italian imperialism. This war proved our people’s determination to defend Albanian soil and its lawful rights at any cost. Its experience, the traditions of patriotism and popular unity, remain a great lesson for our own days as well. In today’s conditions they inspire us to further strengthen the country’s economic and political independence, to defend the victories of socialism and to advance the development of our society. Youth, the intelligentsia, the working class and the cooperative peasantry, inspired by these traditions, are called upon to make their contribution in every field of life, in production, in education, in culture, in science and in the defense of the homeland.
