Our people unanimously support Comrade Ramiz Alia’s speech
A CONTRIBUTION TO STRENGTHENING THE CLIMATE OF INTERNATIONAL COOPERATION
The speech of Comrade Ramiz Alia, Chairman of the Presidium of the People’s Assembly of the People’s Socialist Republic of Albania, delivered at the jubilee session of the General Assembly of the United Nations, dedicated to the 45th anniversary of its creation, continues to be at the center of conversation and commentary among our ordinary people. It has been received everywhere with great interest and is valued as an important contribution to the development of democratic processes in international life, to social progress, and to the preservation of peace and security in the world. Especially important in Comrade Ramiz Alia’s speech, our interlocutors stress, are the ideas expressed on the genuine respect for the freedom and independence of peoples, on the elimination of the policy of force, and above all on the need to apply universal norms and principles. It presents with realism and objectivity the great democratic and revolutionary developments taking place in the world today. Comrade Ramiz Alia’s speech is particularly valuable because it firmly defends the right of peoples to choose their own path of development, without diktat or outside interference. As various citizens emphasize, the value of this speech also lies in its clear spirit of international cooperation, in the will to live in friendship with all countries, regardless of social system.
The necessity of contemporary development
Comrade Ramiz Alia, whose voice was previously listened to attentively at international meetings and forums, also received special attention this time from the press and radio. His interview with the newspaper “L’Unita” had wide resonance, as it treats important issues of present-day development with realism and clarity. Within this framework, the speech at the United Nations should also be viewed, our interlocutors unanimously stress. This is meaningful both for its content and for the place and forum where it was delivered. The presentation of the Albanian reality and of our positions regarding international issues clearly reflects our independent line, the orientation toward activity as active as possible in favor of peace and cooperation. Among the problems raised, particular attention is drawn to the need to respect the free choice of peoples and non-interference in internal affairs. These are fundamental issues which, under today’s conditions, acquire special importance. Albania views today’s world developments with realism and foresight and seeks for international relations to be built on just, equal foundations, without hegemony or impositions.
Above all — human courtesy
Comrade Ramiz Alia’s speech and its resonance have drawn attention not only for its political content, but also for its mature and civic tone, for the sense of responsibility and restraint that characterizes it. It is an appeal for understanding, for mutual respect, for bringing peoples closer together and not dividing them. In it, our conviction is clearly expressed that relations between states must develop on the basis of the norms of international law and the common interests of humanity. The interlocutors point out that this is a consistent line of our foreign policy, which corresponds to the interests of peace and general security. In this sense, Comrade Ramiz Alia’s speech at the UN was and remains a valuable document, worthy of attention and reflection.

The beginnings of the salt workers’ working class

From the district[?] of Durrës. Today, as the dispatched journalist sees it laid out before him, a bleak landscape passes before his eyes[?], with flooded plots and salted soil. But the people of this area have not given up. They continue to work persistently to save what can be saved and to secure the country’s bread. In the village of Kryevidh, in the agricultural sector, but also in the small enterprises of the area, you hear the same view: the difficulties are great, but they can be overcome with work and organization. The cooperative workers see this as a duty to themselves and to society.
In many units, measures have been taken to improve labor discipline and to make better use of the existing equipment. In discussions with production specialists, it becomes clear that the key remains the rational use of every reserve. Some enterprises have begun to review the plan for distributing the workforce, directing it where it is most needed. There are also concerns about a shortage of spare parts and materials, but the spirit is such that no one expects ready-made solutions. Everyone seeks to make their contribution at the workplace.

Above all - the human being
Comrade Ramiz Alia’s speech at the UN jubilee session, although delivered far from us, was for us effective and a spur to action in overcoming the present difficulties and moving our country steadily forward. With this in mind, it was received as invigorating by the entire collective at NBSH “Adriatiku”. By speaking with specialists and members of the brigades, one understands how the speech of the country’s top leader becomes part of their daily thinking. They dwell on the idea that the human being, with his consciousness, culture, and responsibility, is decisive in every effort for development.
In the farm sectors, where the work requires precision and special care, there is a desire to improve organization, save raw materials, and increase yields. Some young people say that what encourages them most is the belief that the country can advance by relying on its own forces and by opening new paths in thought and action. This is in keeping with the spirit of the speech delivered at the UN, which gives a broader meaning to civic responsibility and to the role of each individual in social life.
