became truly the center of conversation with those hundreds and dozens of workers, specialists, cadres, students and residents who had come out to the roadside, to the meadows and terraces to welcome him. Everywhere, amid the ovations and cheers of "Party—Enver, we are always ready", "Ramiz Alia, the Party is us", Comrade Ramiz Alia greeted them warmly. This time he stopped more often, accompanied them from the edges, asked questions about work and production, was interested in the problems of everyday life, and encouraged them to give their opinions. The Party and state organizations, representatives of the front and of the youth gave a brief account of the situation of the work. In not a few cases the conversation touched on sharp issues of the day, but he generally noted broad support for the Party line, a deep love for our socialist homeland and its prospects. In Gjirokastër, at midday yesterday, Comrade Ramiz Alia received and greeted hundreds of citizens who had come out onto the city streets. He visited enterprises and institutions, met workers and cadres, soldiers and young people, and in many places stopped to speak freely with the people.
Meeting with cadres and the people in Gjirokastër
Yesterday afternoon, together with the Party and state cadres of the district, Comrade Ramiz Alia held a broad meeting with workers and representatives of public life in the city of Gjirokastër. At this meeting, numerous views were presented on improving work, increasing production, expanding socialist democracy, and strengthening the role of the basic organizations. In his speech, Comrade Ramiz Alia emphasized the need to move decisively along the path of democratizing economic and social life, while preserving and developing the achievements of socialism. He stressed that the well-being of the people, the increase in income, better supply, and the creation of better living conditions are a source of optimism and inspiration for work. In the evening, in Deshnicë, a warm rally with the people was held, where feelings of love and trust toward the Party and its leadership were expressed.
Meeting with cadres and the people in Gjirokastër
Through dense columns, it rushed from the reception square, the car of Comrade Ramiz Alia continued, gradually entering the city. Along the roadside and in the squares, in open spaces and at windows, thousands of citizens had come out to welcome and greet him. There were young men and women, women and men, workers and intellectuals, veterans and schoolchildren. Many were holding flowers, flags and banners with slogans. The stone city with its fighting and patriotic traditions warmly welcomed the dear guest.
From the meetings and conversations that took place, the great interest of the people in the progress of reforms and in strengthening socialist democracy was clearly seen. There was talk of increasing the effectiveness of the economy, of supply, of the market situation, of greater openness to free thought, and of encouraging constructive criticism. Comrade Ramiz Alia emphasized that reforms require responsibility, discipline and honest work, but also courage to change what is not going well. He said that the Party will listen to the voice of the people and will support every sound idea that serves socialism and the progress of the country.

IMPACTS OF THE NEW ECONOMIC MECHANISM WILL APPEAR THROUGH WORKING WITH PRODUCTIVITY AND CREATIVITY
— FROM A MEETING WITH THE CADRES OF THE GJIROKASTËR DISTRICT —
After the greetings to the people of Gjirokastër and the district and the wishes for the festival days, Comrade Ramiz Alia pointed out that we are now entering the stage of concrete implementation of the decisions of the 9th Plenum of the CC of the PPSH. He dwelt especially on the importance that the work of each person takes on in order to fulfill the tasks related to production, market supply, saving, increasing productivity and establishing discipline in the economy. He emphasized that socialist democracy is not only the right to speak, but also the responsibility to work better, to control more seriously the implementation of the law and not to allow waste and abuses.
Comrade Ramiz Alia praised the work done by the collectives of Gjirokastër in industry, agriculture, education and culture, but he also pointed out shortcomings. In particular, the need to increase the production of consumer goods, to organize services better, to fight bureaucracy and to deepen creative thinking in every link of the economy was mentioned. From the discussions it became clear that many of the problems can be solved if there is more initiative, better organization and a higher demand for accountability.
Party and state cadres, economic managers, workers and specialists spoke at the meeting. They presented concrete views on stimulating material interest, on making more rational use of resources, on strengthening financial control, on expanding cooperation between enterprises and on increasing the quality of products. It was said that the results of the new economic mechanism will not appear of their own accord, but by working with productivity, discipline and creativity.

In the discussions held, it was emphasized that every effort will be made to increase the effectiveness of decisions and to strengthen discipline.
