Our socialist society is in the process of profound democratic transformations. In this way, we are creating and refining a new democratic order, based on legality, broad participation of the people, and the leading role of the Party. The People’s Assembly and other state bodies have undertaken important initiatives to improve our legislation, so that it may better respond to the demands of the time and to the aspirations of the broad working masses. This includes the expansion of citizens’ rights, the strengthening of democratic control, and the improvement of the activity of the organs of people’s power. Within this framework, various normative acts are being reviewed and approved relating to elections, the organization of local government, the administration of justice, and the guarantee of constitutional rights. ARRIVES IN OUR COUNTRY TODAY In the early afternoon, the Secretary-General of the United Nations, Mr. Havip Perez de Kueljar, will arrive today for an official visit to our country. He is invited by the President of the Presidium of the People’s Assembly of the People’s Socialist Republic of Albania. Significant indicators today mark the solidarity and wonderful unity, as well as the people’s great interest in thoroughly understanding and carrying out the revolutionization of the entire life of the country. Responding to the call and proposals of the Party basic organization at the Commercial Enterprise “Kosova”, of the young people of Korça, the veterans of the “10 Korriku” neighborhood, the high school “Sami Frashëri”, the artists of the People’s Theater, and other collectives and organizations, since 7–8 May, thousands of people of different ages and professions across the country have signed the petition calling on them to vote for the candidates of the Democratic Front of Albania in the elections of 13 May. More than 200,000 people, 120,000 in the capital, had signed this petition by yesterday evening. These people, convinced that the fate of Albania is at stake in these elections, are coming voluntarily and with high awareness to declare before the broad public opinion that in the elections of 13 May they will vote for the candidates of the Democratic Front. This determined action by our working masses clearly expresses the strong faith in the Party of Labour of Albania and in Comrade Ramiz Alia, in their correct and far-sighted line, in their wise and far-sighted policy to move the country forward on the road of socialism.
