ENVIRONMENTAL PROTECTION, A MATTER FOR THE WHOLE SOCIETY
Today the national environment week begins, internationally known as the “European spring.” It is organized within the framework of the study and greening campaign with the theme «Life in the river and lake banks» and aims to raise public awareness regarding the living nature of waters. For this reason, this week has been conceived as an activity with very clear objectives and very rich content. It aims to mobilize the broad masses of workers in defense of nature and the environment. This activity, coordinated with concrete actions, will serve as a platform for reflection and understanding for the whole people, to judge and assess the state of our environment. At the same time it will make us more sensitive and more active in protecting and enriching it. At the beginning of the national week, actions, educational activities, exhibitions, contests and various meetings with broad masses of workers and young people will be held. Environmental protection is a matter of the health of the people, of the economy and of the country’s future. It requires civic awareness, continuous measures and coordination among all institutions. In this framework, the protection of waters, forests, soil and air is important, as well as educating the younger generation in the culture of preserving nature.

Is the forest the property of everyone or of no one?
In searching for the best and most effective ways to increase agricultural production, the government and the organs of people’s power are paying ever greater attention to the rational use of land, water and pastures. Yet in practice there are still cases of carelessness and damage to common property. The question arises: are forests the property of everyone or of no one? Examples of indiscriminate cutting, fires caused by carelessness, damage to the forest fund and a lack of care for afforestation require stronger organizational and educational measures. In this context, cooperatives, forestry enterprises, people’s councils and the residents themselves are called upon to show greater responsibility for protecting forests, expanding green areas and wisely using this national wealth.
The sea festival
This week Durrës has taken on a special liveliness. On the promenade, at the pier, in the port and in the city’s public spaces, the atmosphere of a beautiful popular festival can be felt. People of different ages, workers, young people and children enjoy the day with natural joy, while artists and athletes give performances and demonstrate their skills. The sea has become the center of attention, a symbol of the beauty and work of this city. This day turned into a celebration shows the close connection of the citizens with seaside life and with the prospects for the tourist and economic development of Durrës. Events of the War are commemorated
The 50th anniversary of the first partisan unit in Pezë was celebrated
On Sunday morning, together with veterans and residents of the area, commemorative events were held dedicated to the 50th anniversary of the first partisan unit in Pezë. At the meeting, speeches were made about the patriotic and revolutionary traditions of this region, its role in the National Liberation War, and the sacrifices of the martyrs. The participants visited historic sites and laid wreaths near the monuments. In the remarks, emphasis was placed on the need for the younger generations to learn more about the history of the war and to preserve its memory with respect. (Continues on page 5)
