ALL COLLECTIVES IN LIBRAZHD STRIVE AND POWER AHEAD
— The goal: by the end of the first half-year, 9 million lek in additional output —
The line should be as follows. Implementation of the decision, relying on increased production and exports. In addition, the export of industrial goods is taking on an important place. On the other hand, in the local and auxiliary industrial branches, activities for work and production using domestic raw materials are being carried out in an organized manner and at a satisfactory pace, in order to achieve as efficiently as possible the objectives set for this year. Thus, as our correspondent A. Dylgjeri reports, during the January-May period, the value of achievements in this field is around 7 million lek, forming about 80 percent of the half-year plan. In the production units for wood-based articles, in the forestry enterprise, considerable quantities of items for widespread use have been produced and sold. At the same time, in the artistic production enterprise, artistic objects, children’s toys and other items have been further increased. Good work with domestic raw materials is also being done in the other sectors. (Continued on page 2)

A STRONG SUPPORT FOR AGRICULTURAL PRODUCTION
— The quality of the products increases; their prices do not change, on the hot summer days ahead —
A good effort by the construction materials enterprise in Fushë-Krujë. Such an organization has made it possible to find ways and opportunities for the successful implementation of the plan tasks. With the production of 23,120 tons of bricks, 24.9 percent of the bricks were above plan. The same happened with tile production, which in this period reached 21,560 pieces more than planned. This good performance is based on organized work, on the implementation of technological discipline and on the rational use of raw materials. In this enterprise work is also being done to further improve the quality of the products and to keep their prices unchanged, thus creating a strong support for agricultural production. 1. A dry summer with high temperatures. That is how the first days of this season are shaping up. This requires special attention to field and garden crops, as well as more organized work for irrigation, fertilization and other agrotechnical services. In some agricultural enterprises good efforts are being made to cope with the situation, but there are also cases where the existing possibilities are not being properly used. Under these conditions, specialists and managers are required to be closer to the production base and to help concretely in solving the problems. (Continued on page 2)
Mountain tea can be cultivated in low rocky areas
— The experiment leads to a scientific conclusion —
At the livestock station, near the end of 1988 and 1989, as our correspondent K. Cini reports, several trial plots with mountain tea were planted. The results obtained from them have been satisfactory and have shown that this medicinal and aromatic plant can adapt and produce yields even in low rocky areas. According to specialists, mountain tea has shown good resistance to the climatic conditions of the area and has given acceptable yields. This conclusion is important for expanding the cultivation of this plant and for making more rational use of poor soils, where other crops produce less. The experiment will be expanded further to other areas as well, in order to draw more complete conclusions regarding cultivation technology and the possibilities of use in the economy. K. CINI
Development prospects for afforestation in our country
Our editor Gjynshan Jusufi interviewed the director of the General Directorate of Afforestation, Kush Sejdi, at length:
The main responsibilities are securing seedlings, expanding the forested areas and improving planting techniques. We aim to increase afforestation rates in the hilly and mountainous areas, but also in those damaged by erosion. Special attention is being paid to the selection of the most suitable species, in order to achieve higher survival rates for seedlings and to create more sustainable forest masses. This work is closely linked to environmental protection, to the protection of land and waters, as well as to the development of the forestry economy. In many districts concrete actions have been undertaken for collecting seeds, establishing nurseries and preparing planting sites. The results achieved so far are encouraging, but more organization and technical support are needed. “...”
