THE PARTY OF LABOUR — INITIATOR OF THE DEMOCRATIZATION PROCESSES
The Chairman of the Presidium of the People’s Assembly of the People's Socialist Republic of Albania, Ramiz Alia, gave a long interview last night to Belgrade television and to foreign journalists. The interview dealt extensively with the country’s current problems and the democratization processes taking place in Albania. Speaking about the role of the Party of Labour, he stressed that the party had been the initiator of these processes and that it was determined to move forward on the path of political, economic and social reforms. It was underlined that political pluralism is coming to life in our country, while conditions are being created for the legal activity of other parties. In this context, contacts with the initiative groups and efforts to institutionalize democratic life were also mentioned. The interview also addressed the economy, the state of the market, supplies, employment and the need for restructuring. It was said that measures are being taken to overcome difficulties and to strengthen order and discipline. At the end, foreign relations, Kosovo and developments in Eastern Europe were also discussed.[?]

The participants spoke about agriculture, supplies, roads, housing, health care and education.

In Berat, the need to strengthen the role of the grassroots, greater responsibility of local bodies and closer ties with citizens was highlighted. It was said that the program must be understandable, feasible and based on the real possibilities of the economy. Emphasis was placed on preserving calm, order and mutual understanding.

Responsibility and a spirit of cooperation
In Korçë, discussions focused on work with young people, strengthening social life and opening up to different opinions. It was requested that the elections be accompanied by civility and that the candidates be close to the people, responsible and worthy of the voters’ trust.

KORÇË — In various places in the city and the district, social and humanitarian activities have been held. Citizens have expressed gratitude for the aid and solidarity in overcoming difficulties. Initiatives aimed at calm, understanding and cooperation among people have been valued.
VLORË — In meetings organized by work collectives and city neighborhoods, discussion focused on the importance of maintaining order, caring for families in need, and cooperation between institutions and the people. It was said that the strength of society lies in unity and in a sense of shared responsibility.

Teaching mathematics
The problems of teaching mathematics, the improvement of textbooks, the level of students’ preparation and the qualification of teachers were at the center of a recently conducted analysis. The need for more suitable methods, for raising scientific standards and for linking knowledge with practice was discussed.
