Issue of the day Due to a lack of understanding of responsibilities or the inability to prevent breakdowns in the network and substations, precious energy is being lost Skopje A careful examination of the data on poor discipline in Kosovo’s electricity system over the past period, especially in January, brings to light a phenomenon that is as worrying as it is harmful: misuse, damage and breakdowns in the network and substations are causing major losses of electricity. At a time when power shortages are weighing on production and on citizens’ lives, these losses are even more unjustifiable. According to the data given here, many interruptions have occurred not because of unavoidable faults, but because of carelessness, lack of control and delays in intervention. In some cases, equipment has been damaged by unauthorized load, in others by poor maintenance of the network. This situation calls for stricter measures and greater responsibility from the relevant enterprises. If this continues, not only will precious energy be lost, but the stability of the entire electricity system will also be damaged. Therefore, the responsible bodies are called upon to react immediately, improve organization and take concrete measures to prevent breakdowns and unnecessary losses.

SHORT Let us use electrical energy as rationally as possible Today in Pristina it was said that saving electricity is everybody’s obligation and that under the present conditions it should be used only for the most essential needs. Enterprises and citizens were urged to avoid unnecessary spending and contribute to stabilizing supply. It was emphasized that with joint commitment the consequences of the current shortages can be eased, but this requires greater discipline and better control of consumption. If everyone acts responsibly, the situation can improve.

Lushnje — With the aim of preserving discipline in the supply process and of the rational use of energy resources, in Lushnje better work organization and greater responsibility were demanded from all factors. It was emphasized that every waste worsens the general situation and that measures must be implemented without concessions. In the meetings held, the need for cooperation between the organizations and the relevant services was underlined, so that supply can be kept within the limits of existing possibilities and the most serious consequences avoided.

At the wood workplace in the cooperative factory, Niko Xhuta, in carrying out the work, gives his maximum, both in quality and in meeting his order deadlines.

IN TIRANA THE DEBATE Economic relations also raise the demand for improving the system of remuneration according to work. In the discussions held in Tirana, it was emphasized that pay should be more closely tied to the difficulty, responsibility and concrete results of the work. The participants considered that a fair differentiation of wages would have a positive impact on motivation and productivity. It was also requested that unjustified equalization be avoided and clearer criteria be created for assessing contribution. In the public statement, it is emphasized that citizens must show calm and self-control, while institutions must act in accordance with their duties.
