The Dialectic of Renewal

By Sami Mili The moments our country is going through are laden with sharp contradictions and difficulties, which our people pay for in order to move forward. In the process of overcoming the old and affirming the new, as in every turning point, different interests, concepts, attitudes and practices collide. The path of renewal requires courage, prudence and responsibility, but also ideological and political clarity so as not to slide into denial of the fundamental values of socialism. Today more than ever, the need is evident to analyze all the phenomena accompanying social development with a dialectical spirit. One cannot move forward by denying everything that has been done, nor by blindly defending everything that has existed. The dialectic of renewal means understanding what must be preserved, what must be changed, and in what direction we should go. Only thus can extremes be avoided and a sound basis created for the consolidation of order, legality and democratic life. Within this framework, the task of strengthening the unity of the people, increasing the role of social organizations and establishing a climate of trust is strongly emphasized. Criticism and self-criticism remain indispensable tools for correcting mistakes, avoiding bureaucratic distortions and opening the way to creative initiative. But criticism must be honest, concrete and linked to civic responsibility, not to demagoguery or destruction. True renewal cannot come as an import of foreign models, but as the result of our own experience, our own tradition and the country's concrete conditions. It requires organized work, social discipline and a proper understanding of freedom. Freedom without responsibility leads to anarchy; responsibility without freedom leads to rigidity. Precisely in their interaction lies the essence of a renewal that serves people, the homeland and socialism.
Sami Mili

To encourage creative and pioneering initiative more and more broadly

It is a requirement of our time that, at all levels of economic and social life, the creative energy of the masses be released. Pioneering initiative, when properly supported and guided, becomes an important factor in increasing production, improving quality and saving resources. The experience of the best collectives shows that where a person feels valued and listened to, where his proposals are taken seriously, the results are more evident. But the encouragement of initiative cannot remain merely at the level of general appeals. It requires a change in the style of leadership, a struggle against bureaucratism, formalism and leveling. The leading bodies must create real conditions for new ideas to be tested, generalized and rewarded. Likewise, educational work must deepen awareness of responsibility, discipline and social property. Today, when the country is facing numerous difficulties, it is more important than ever to rely on our own forces. Every workplace can and should become a center of creative thought and action. Every collective must find new ways to make better use of internal reserves, avoid losses and increase efficiency. This is the safest way to move forward with dignity and confidence.

Who does not want democratization

I have the opportunity, as a citizen and as a man of this country, to express my opinion regarding some phenomena that have been noticed in recent times. The words about democracy have increased, but not infrequently they are used without content, as a slogan and not as a conviction. Democratization does not mean weakening the state, nor the disintegration of discipline, but broader participation of citizens in decision-making, respect for the law and the fight against privileges. There are also those who want to present democratization as a denial of everything that came before, or as an occasion for revenge and chaos. These, in fact, do not want democratization. They seek personal gain, political noise and destabilization. True democracy requires culture, civic-mindedness and a sense of responsibility. It cannot be built on slander, hatred or calls for division. Today the country needs calm, wise debate and well-thought-out reforms. Citizens must be heard, institutions must function and the law must prevail. Only in this way does democratization become a shared path and not an empty slogan.
