By voting for comrade Ramiz, we vote for democracy

Reportage At the polling center many people gathered—peasants and workers, cooperative members and intellectuals, young men and women, women and men. Everyone waited eagerly for the arrival of comrade Ramiz Alia. Calm and open, he appeared among the people and was welcomed with applause. Handshakes, warm greetings, smiles and kind words accompanied the moments of the meeting. People asked him many things—about life, work, the troubles of the country and their families. He listened attentively, encouraged them to speak, and replied simply. When he entered the polling center, he carefully observed the electoral procedure, stopped at the list of candidates, took the ballot and shortly afterwards put it into the box. Those present burst into applause. Someone said aloud: “By voting for comrade Ramiz, we vote for democracy.” The others agreed with nods and words. In casual conversations with voters, it was noted that the elections of 31 March are an important test for the country, that they will demonstrate civic maturity, free will and the desire to move forward. Many people expressed the conviction that the Party will emerge stronger from this democratic confrontation, because it has been and remains linked to the people. Many of those present said they had known comrade Ramiz at other meetings and that he had always been approachable, patient and interested in people's problems. Young people pointed to the need for more work, better education, and greater openness to contemporary knowledge and culture. Women spoke about the family, daily life, calm and understanding. Older people recalled past difficulties and hopes for better days. In the end, the meeting took on the dimensions of a natural civic gathering. Respect, closeness and trust were felt everywhere. On people's faces could be clearly read the desire for the elections to take place in peace, with order and dignity. English: By voting for comrade Ramiz, we vote for democracy. I presenti scoppiarono in applausi.
