Discussions aimed at serious work

The law on the main constitutional provisions was approved The decision of the People's Assembly must be implemented on all fronts and at every level. We must move boldly forward in the steps of democratization, in the continuation of political and economic reforms. It is becoming clear everywhere that the time has come for concrete action. The preparation of free elections, interventions in laws and other acts, changes in the structures of the administration, in the treatment of property, are creating a different climate in the country. During the discussions it was emphasized that formalism and delays must be avoided, and that all institutions must bear full responsibility before the people. Today there are many demands in the country for political clarity, for order and legality. Deputies pointed out that we must respond seriously to this new climate and not allow ambiguities to hinder the life of the country. A number of speakers stressed that the economy requires quick but well-thought-out solutions, so that the general interests of society are not harmed. The session also addressed at length the responsibility of local bodies, the need for a simpler and more controllable administration, the guarantee of citizens' rights, and the creation of conditions so that the people can concretely feel the spirit of change. It was stressed that the law on the main constitutional provisions is an important basis for the country's new political and social life. During the break between sessions. (Photo: ATSH)

THE WORD OF THE DEPUTIES IN PEOPLE'S CONSCIENCE

“With the greatest constructive responsibility” SOTIRAQ ÇOBERENI People's attention is focused on the session of the People's Assembly. Much of what was expected from this forum was tied to the need to clarify important political and social issues. The word of the deputies must remain closely linked to people's everyday concerns, to their real worries and their expectations. In these circumstances, responsibility for every assessment, every proposal and every position is greater than ever. Maturity, argument and a sense of state are required. Only in this way can public trust be strengthened and the process of change taking place in the country be supported.

In the name of the national interest

Political analyst — By Bashkim Gazidede[?] It is time for debates to be built on facts and on the national interest. Political life is entering a new stage and each force must show maturity, responsibility and foresight. In this context, every attempt to gain short-term advantage at the expense of the country's interests is harmful. There is a need for relations between political forces to be built on mutual respect and on the rules of the democratic game. The people expect calm, seriousness and wise decision-making from their representatives. Upon this also depends the ability to overcome the many economic and social difficulties the country is facing. Hasty positions and judgments based on prejudice only worsen the general climate. What is needed today is the will for understanding and for real solutions, not the stirring up of opposition for propaganda effects. The national interest must remain the common point of reference at every step.

People's Assembly resolution on Kosovo

The People's Assembly, gathered in its regular session, examined the situation in Kosovo and adopted a resolution expressing deep concern for the rights of the Albanian population there. The document emphasizes the need to respect national, civic and human freedoms and rights, as well as to stop violence and repression. The resolution calls for the problems to be solved by political means, in accordance with international norms and with the interests of peace and stability in the region. It reiterates the spiritual and national ties with the Albanians of Kosovo and expresses solidarity with their resistance.

More parliamentary culture

— Berrat — Society. “How many times did I follow on television how the deputies' thoughts were taking shape in a hall of the People's Assembly?” It seemed to me that a more civilized era of debate was coming. However, words did not always serve clarity. There were times when the emotional charge of the discussions blurred the meaning of what needed to be said. I think parliamentary culture is not merely a matter of form. It is connected to respect for the other person, to the ability to listen, to care in language and to sensitivity toward the public that is following. If we want a healthier democratic life, we must learn to debate with more parliamentary culture.
