Yesterday, the President of the Republic, Ramiz Alia, received at the headquarters of the People’s Assembly the chairmen and representatives of the country’s political parties. At this meeting, the issues arising during the election campaign, the development of the democratic process, and the measures that should be taken to calm the situation were discussed, especially on the eve of the partial elections of 5 May. The importance of respecting the law, maintaining order, and creating a normal political climate for the conduct of voting was emphasized at the meeting. Representatives of the various political forces in the country took part in the meeting, and the view was expressed that dialogue and mutual understanding are the only path for overcoming difficulties and for the country’s progress under conditions of political pluralism.

Among the matters of the People’s Assembly Today continues normally. The People’s Assembly has entered the week of the first meetings of its next session. The agenda includes a series of economic and social issues. Special attention is being devoted to the problems of market supply, stabilizing social life, increasing the effectiveness of administration, and improving the overall political climate. In these circumstances, public opinion expects not only discussions but also concrete solutions. This is the most sensitive demand of the citizens, who in everyday life face shortages, insecurity, and numerous difficulties. The work of the competent bodies must be accompanied by greater responsibility and by a clearer social vision.
