PRESIDENT RAMIZ ALIA ARRIVED IN KUKËS

Yesterday afternoon the President of the Republic, Mr. Ramiz Alia, accompanied by members of the government and the presidium, arrived in Kukës. He was welcomed by local authorities and by many citizens. A large rally was held in the city’s main square, attended by residents of Kukës and the surrounding districts.
In his speech, President Ramiz Alia spoke about the country’s political and economic situation, about the steps being taken in the democratization process, and about the need to preserve calm, order, and national unity. He stressed that the difficulties are great, but they can be overcome through work, understanding, and responsibility.
The President also addressed the problems of the northeastern area, pointing out the need for investment, improved supply, and the creation of better living conditions for the population. He said that the government would closely follow the requests of the residents of this area.
During the rally, participants expressed support for the reforms and for the efforts being made to stabilize the situation. Afterwards, the President also held meetings with representatives of local government and social organizations.

The head of the delegation gave a brief overview of Albania, of the interest in it, and of the prospects for cooperation in various fields. He pointed out that thousands of Albanians and many friends of Albania live in the USA, and that they wish to establish contacts and develop relations.
President Ramiz Alia, thanking him for the interest expressed, stressed that Albania wishes to broaden its ties with the world and to establish beneficial relations with all countries. He also appreciated the role of organizations and individuals who help bring peoples closer together.
The meeting also discussed possibilities for cooperation in the economic, cultural, and humanitarian fields.

Troubling events in Durrës
DID YOU THINK IT WAS SIMPLY A MATTER FOR THE PUBLIC ORDER INSTITUTIONS?
For days, reports have been coming in about movements and gatherings of people in Durrës. According to the first data, part of the crowd headed toward the port and public buildings, causing concern in the city. Law-enforcement bodies and representatives of local government have taken measures to normalize the situation.
The reports received say that some buildings have been damaged and that obstacles have been created in traffic. Residents are expressing concern about the escalation of the situation and are asking for swift intervention. The authorities are calling for calm and for the avoidance of actions that damage the life of the city.
According to official sources, checks are being carried out on the organizers and instigators of these actions. Representatives of central institutions have been sent to the city to assess the situation up close and take the necessary measures.

FROM THE SPEECH OF PRESIDENT RAMIZ ALIA
During his speech at the rally held in Kukës, President Ramiz Alia addressed a range of issues related to the country’s political, economic, and social situation. He stressed that the country is going through a difficult period, but that reforms are necessary and must be carried forward with moderation, determination, and the participation of citizens.
Speaking about political pluralism, he underlined the importance of fair political competition and respect for the law and institutions. In his view, political forces must avoid unnecessary tensions and work for the country’s stability.
The President also spoke at length about economic issues, supply difficulties, and the need to increase production. He said that without work, discipline, and responsibility, the consequences of the crisis cannot be overcome. In particular, he mentioned the need to help the poorest areas and improve the lives of the population.

Deputy Prime Minister Dr. Gramoz Pashko received at the OSCE mission
Deputy Prime Minister Dr. Gramoz Pashko received the mission of OSCE observers and experts, who are in our country to follow political and institutional developments. During the conversation, issues related to the democratic processes, the elections, the economic situation, and the government’s steps toward reforms were discussed.
Dr. Pashko pointed out the difficulties of the transition period and stressed that the government is interested in close cooperation with international organizations. The mission representatives expressed interest in the progress of the democratic processes and in compliance with the relevant standards.
