PRESS CONFERENCE OF THE CHAIRMAN OF THE SOCIALIST PARTY FATOS NANO
In a hall filled with local and foreign journalists, yesterday the chairman of the SPSh, Mr. Fatos Nano, held a press conference in which he presented his party’s position in the situation created by the resignation of Prime Minister Ylli Bufi’s government.
He said that the situation in the country is characterized by deep economic, political, moral and psychological convulsions. This situation is the result of the failure of the economic policy pursued so far, the government’s inability to emerge from the crisis and to find a real way out. According to him, the situation has been worsened by the lack of political stability and the inability to find consensus among the political forces.
Mr. Nano declared that the Socialist Party cannot assume governing responsibility without having clear guarantees for the normal development of political processes, for the functioning of institutions, and for the holding of free and fair elections.
He stressed that the SPSh is ready to contribute to solving the crisis, but cannot become part of political adventures that endanger the country’s stability.
According to him, the only solution remains a return to the sovereign through early elections.
In response to journalists’ questions, Mr. Nano spoke of the need for a technical or temporary government that would guarantee the normal administration of the country until elections are held. He said that the party he leads will support any solution that serves social peace and democratic stability.
He called for provocations, hate speech and political pressure to be avoided, stressing that the country needs calm, dialogue and national responsibility.
