THE PEOPLE HAVE DELIVERED THEIR VERDICT: THE PD FACES THE HISTORIC TEST OF FULFILLING THE HOPES AND PROMISES THAT GAVE IT ITS TRIUMPHANT VICTORY
THE SOCIALIST PARTY IN OPPOSITION, AN ORGANIZED AND CONSTRUCTIVE POLITICAL FORCE, A GUARANTEE OF PLURALISM AND REAL DEMOCRACY, DEFENDER OF NATIONAL IDEALS AND OF HUMAN FREEDOMS AND RIGHTS
LET DEMOCRACY WIN!
The elections of 22 March, together with their aftermath, marked the great turning point of the electoral campaign and the undeniable verdict on the country’s future. The people put an end to the governing coalition created a year earlier on the basis of a political agreement born of the deep economic, social and institutional crisis. With its vote, it decided to change the balance of political forces in the country.
The Democratic Party emerged victorious with a clear result, taking upon itself the historical responsibility of turning into reality the hopes and promises with which it won the trust of the majority of voters. Its victory should not be seen merely as a rotation in power, but as a serious test of its ability to govern a country that is economically devastated, weary from the transition and socially divided.
The Socialist Party, although it lost the elections, remains a large, organized and constructive political force. It has the duty to defend pluralism, real democracy, national ideals, and human rights and freedoms. Its opposition should not be an obstacle, but democratic oversight, a responsible alternative, and the voice of citizens who seek order, social justice and the rule of law.
The first lesson of these elections is that democracy is not won once and for all. It requires strong institutions, separation of powers, free media and civic participation. Albania is entering a new stage, where the winners must govern with prudence and responsibility, while the losers must know how to behave as a modern opposition. Only then can democracy win.
