The farther we move away, the more we become convinced that the Sunday victory achieved by the Democratic Party, helped by [g?]reva e urisë and the hunger strikes of [?!], could be nothing other than the epilogue of a long electoral contest. In this contest there was much blending of agendas; instead of comparing programs there was an abundance of accusations, insults, denigration; there was heated rhetoric and unbridled propaganda. This contest, which crowned the Democratic Party with a landslide victory, must also be read as an expression of the accumulated revolt against the economic situation, against poverty, against insecurity, against our inability to persuade in time. The people voted not only for an alternative, but also against an unbearable situation. In this sense, the result is a severe test for all of us. It forces us to look at our mistakes clearly, to analyze them without excuses, and to draw political responsibility. The Socialist Party must regain trust not through slogans, but through work, openness, political morality, and the ability to become the voice of people’s troubles. If we want to be an alternative for today and for the future, we must change the way we do politics, our relationship with the membership and with society, as well as the culture of public debate. Only in this way can a defeat be turned into the beginning of a true resurgence.
