What is being done about the lists of candidates for the local government bodies?
The electoral situation in the 36 districts where the partial administrative-territorial elections of 26 July will be held is as follows:
By these days, 31 parties and associations have been registered. The Central Committee has sent to all prefectures and district chairmen the law and other electoral provisions so that they may familiarize themselves with them. The drafting of voter lists has begun. Electoral commissions have been set up in the prefectures and districts.
According to the Central Committee’s initial data, in the country’s 36 districts there are 238 communes and 67 municipalities. In these elections there will be 305 commune and municipal councils, 455 commune chairmen and 67 municipal chairmen. The number of voters reaches 1,878,000.
Political parties and associations have submitted requests to register as electoral subjects. Local commissions have been set up and preparations for voting are under way.
The Central Committee has called on political subjects to respect the legal deadlines for submitting candidates and the relevant documentation.
“Let the pine fall”?
