ONLY THROUGH DIALOGUE CAN THE SITUATION BE NORMALIZED
Interview with the chairman of the District Council of Mallakastër, Mr. Haxhi Kërçiku, and the mayor of Ballsh, Mr. Ismet Beqiri
Mr. Kërçiku! Why did this general strike happen in the Ballsh area and what consequences did it have in the country?
To tell the truth, this strike was unexpected. Neither the local government bodies nor the management of the enterprise were informed. There were 6 demands put forward by the strikers, especially regarding lowering the retirement age and increasing unemployment benefits. So, these were economic demands and not political ones. Meanwhile, measures are being taken to resolve the situation through dialogue, since it is known that the interruption of production has serious consequences for the country's economy.
How did this movement come about?
In general, the strike spread quickly. The workers at the plant and in the oil sector showed solidarity. There was great concern in the city. On the other hand, it seemed that there was a lack of coordination with the local authorities. Under these conditions we have called for calm, self-restraint, and dialogue.
What do you think should be done now?
I think the workers' demands should be listened to seriously, provocations should be avoided, and the politicization of the situation should not be allowed. Only through sincere talks and mutual understanding can the situation be normalized.

Others...
IN ITS FATE AND MEANING
A few days ago the event of resignation took place. It was widely commented on in various political and journalistic circles. In democratic countries, the act of resignation is seen as a moral and civic responsibility. Here, it continues to be seen with astonishment, suspicion, and even mockery.
There are people who consider resignation a sign of weakness. Others see it as a dignified act. In fact, what matters is the reason and the time when it is done. Just as important is whether society understands this as part of political culture.
We still have not created this tradition. That is why resignation is often accompanied by noise, insinuations, and prejudice.

AS LONG AS REALIZATION IS SO, SO CLOSE TO DEMOCRACY
When disagreements and turmoil began in the country, many thought that democracy was being put to the test. But for it to truly be such, it requires a culture of dialogue, respect for the law, and civic responsibility.
Under the conditions of transition, every unnecessary clash drives society away from normality. Democracy is not built with ultimatums, but with agreements and functioning institutions.
