OUR PRISONERS ALL OVER THE WORLD WORLD Written from prison by TIMAS NINO We are a group of young Albanian emigrant men, unjustly imprisoned in Greece and Yugoslavia, at the mercy of fate. Our state institutions seem not to care at all about us. This is the desperate situation we are experiencing in these first days of the new year 1993. We pray with all our soul and heart that we may ask for the help of our institutions to do something for us, to bring us back to our homeland. We have been left wandering the roads of the world, with no protection whatsoever. We are young, with families waiting for us. Some of us have been sentenced without evidence, some are awaiting trial, others are in camps and prisons. We ask the Albanian state to take an interest in our fate. Many of us left because of poverty and unemployment, but that does not mean we should be forgotten. We demand our rights as Albanian citizens. We call on the government, parliament, presidium and every institution to intervene. If our words reach you, do not leave them unanswered. Çelje Çadi Writes from prison I have complained several times in writing and verbally to the DPSH, our Embassy in Sofia and elsewhere, but I have received no answer. Leaders of our institutions have promised me that they would take an interest, but so far I have seen nothing concrete. I am in prison and suffering unjustly, while my family is in distress. Please do not take the fate of people in foreign prisons as a joke. Every delay, every silence, is one more pain. I trust that this appeal will be heard and that our state will do its duty. Based on the conclusions of the preliminary investigations by experts from the Ministry of Finance, not only Nexhmije Hoxha but also several former directors of other institutions have been charged. The criminal complaint states that Mrs. Nexhmije Hoxha, while serving as director of the General Directorate of Archives and later as director of the Institute of Marxist-Leninist Studies under the Central Committee of the PPSh, committed unlawful acts. Likewise, the former director of the film studio “Shqipëria e Re”, Kino Bumeli, has also been placed in the dock. The proceedings began yesterday and are expected to last several days. The “Çamëria” Commission attached to the Albanian government and parliament should deal with the problems of Albanian citizens who are serving sentences or suffering consequences in other countries. This commission should collect data, contact families, seek international assistance and make the most serious cases public. Only in this way will the issue not be forgotten. (Continued on page 3) Regarding the Albanian issue and the Cham issue, hundreds and hundreds of people gathered at the branch of the “Çamëria” association in Elbasan to make an analysis of the situation. In this gathering, concerns were raised about the lack of a clear national and international policy. It was said that there is a duality in positions and that this is harming efforts to make the national question a priority.
